Chad is right, a retailer reserves the right to serve who they choose with no good reason.

Do you think that if that women was addressed in the manner of the game do you think she would still buy it.

women : I'd like to pre-order gta for my son

Staff member: F**k you bit*h and get yo arse over this desk so I can show you a real man

The staff member would be sacked on the spot and the woman would probably sue.

Did you know it is illegal to sell a knife to someone if they tell you that they are going to harm someone with it.

A customer has ever right to know and has the right to ask why and be told if refused service. Phone the CAB up, they'll tell you it is true and has formed many a civil liberties case, one's where they will fight the cause for you if needed.

I thought I had a victory today. Little kid comes in with his Dad getting him to preorder GTA for him. I made him aware that the game was an eighteen and he asked why. I then went on to explain the verbal, violent, sexual nature of the games. The father looked at his son then told me, "we'll come back later. "

I thought to myself, Yes!! One victory out of dozens of failures. Five minutes later the man came back with his son, the son with a huge smile on his face. The fathers says "I'd like to preorder San Andreas please."

You can't win against kids when it comes to influencing their parents. Not for long at least.

You can refuse to sell a product to anyone as a retailer.

When i used to be manager at Gamestation, it was the same story when Vice City came out, and more particularly The Getaway.

Same story, 8 year olds with their mum. I'd tell them The Getaway featured gang rape, and you could see realisation dawn on their faces.

Anyway, as a retailer, you can refuse to sell ANY product to ANY customer for ANY reason you want to. It's not good for the figures, but you can do it.

That customer will buy it elsewhere and not return to your store, that's the long term downside.

It's one of the joys of management, and if you go to the CAB, they'll tell you the same.

You don't have to give a reason, but it makes it a little easier if you can explain yourself to the customer.

How many people in retail here have kicked Chav's out of the shop for no other reason than they're both ugly and thick?

            'tis a tough decision

tbh, reading headline after headline about ninty killing someone's son, or gta causing global terrorism or whatever loopy idea the media can think of just causes me to ignore the hype

to all the retail workers here (assistants and bosses alike), has anyone actually had an incident whereby people came into their shop complaining about them selling titles such as gta, getaway and manhunt? i'm not talking about angry parents who weren't present at the sale, i'm talking about either parents who knew full well what they were buying and THEN got angry, or rogue demonstrators 'for the cause'

              Hahaha

This happens all the time mate!

Here's another piss funny event happened recently...

Under aged kid: What do I get for GTA Vice City in exchange?

Me (in a no taking **** mood): What the hell are you doing with that 18 rated game? It's people like you who end up being the mass murderers of the future...

Mum comes along who over hears and looks distressed: What's going on?

Me (with a bit of bull****): Do you know your child is in possession of an 18 rated game that glorifies violence, drug taking, gang rape, beating prostitutes plus many more bad things...

Mum: At this point she's horrified at what her son has been doing and proceeds to give him a thick ear (infront of his best mate) and tells him that he's barred from hanging out with his bad-influence mates ever again...

My good deed for the day!

Is this Paul, the legendary manager from Gamestation, who sold everytinhg early including machines, sold imports under the counter, shut the shop some afternoons to get stoned with his regulars and play games, got one of his staff off a rape charge, shagged all his assistants including the one who modeled for Loaded, played Robin at one of the conferences, told the head of HR that he'd be "more likely to beat her up, as she's too ugly to rape" at the same conference in front of thirty or so other managers, robbed them for tens of thousands of pounds once they sold to Blockbuster AND successfully sued them for wrongful dismissal?

When the getaway cameout a father brought the game for his two sons, aged about 10 and 14. I told him the film was an eighteen and for good reason, but he dismissed it and brought the game.

Two days later he came back angry, demanding a refund for the, (now scratched to hell) game. Apparently he overheard some of the game while his kids were playing and heard swear words and was outraged that 'games today' had such vial language. I had informed of the violence and sexual nature games with 18 certificates have before selling it, but being relativly new at the time I neglected to mention swear words. ( I used to think if people were ok with their kids being exposed to sex and graphic violence, foul language wouldn't rank very high on their concern list.)

You might think that, you might very well think that.

                          I couldn't possibly comment.

And, how exactly would a child be influenced by the game? They gonna go down to the local ammunation shop, throw some gangstas out of their car and cruise around shooting rival gangs?
Mate, are you in the real world?? There aren't alot of things in Vice city for younger kids to relate to, the clothes worn in it wouldn't appeal, cheesey 80's music? Don't think so! The only thing that would appeal was the violence and swearing!

Now lets have a look at San andreas, Hmmm Rap music by the likes of Snoop dogg, guy's wearing baggy jeans with hoodys hanging out in gangs, drinking , smoking pot, swearing, gang wars. I don't know where you live but that already seems to be the norm around here.

This game is more like the culture we have today, and you better believe that all the 'Gangsta' wannabe's WILL BE INFLUENCED BY THIS GAME!!!

Oh and by the way i'm not out to offend people by that generalisation.

It's you using a second account on the same IP address of 81.156.81.60.

                                I assure you it isn't.

I don't know how IP addresses work in all honesty, but only I have access to my computer, though i do use the one from work, but no one at work is aware of my past for obvious reasons.
