I meant Japan original (not great itself, but big gulf in quality):

Edit - actually, i don't think Atlus has ever kept the original artwork, dispite their niche market target.
I'm always surprised at how **** most of Atlus' covers are. You'd expect them to be the sort of company to get it right.

I actually like this cover, it reminds me of the Front Mission games for some reason.

You've got to look at the Wii's market, though. With a cover like the US version, they'll sell twice as many copies to people who assume that it's a plus sign and it's some kind of maths based brain training game.

Why the hell is there a Doberman in the Japanese picture? It hardly gives the impression of the sort of environment that I'd want to have surgery in if I needed to.

It's just a cut-and-paste job of the ingame art. Doubt it took much longer than the US one to make.

This is one of the longest running threads on the forum (it started in 2003), but as a result of that it means most of the first few dozen pages are full of image links that no longer work.

Maybe we should have a revival. Repost some of the truly classic bad examples, as a warning to future game developers. A good game is remembered, but bad boxart should be eternal...

^Man, that smells so much like New Jack City-era America, complete with Marky Mark in Michael's Thriller jacket and the black guy sporting Warriors-style garb at a time when the LA ghettos were ready to burst with ****-hot, violent anger (and biker jackets were the last thing on their minds...)

I loved the biased, post-Reaganite America, I wish it wasn't getting more media-savvy these days.

Feels bad, this, but that's far superior to the Japanese boxart. Good Jap boxart is truly ten-a-penny, but this...

Why the hell did he need the binoculars?

edit: also, what kind of award did this win? Scratch that, maybe I don't want to know.

Mario Galaxy would have sold twice as many copies with "I AM A PLUMBER!" plastered over the front

No, no. That cover is clearly made of awesome and win! I'ma saving it.
