    Ninty Revolution: US first?

I considered making this point in the PSP thread before deciding to make it here instead.

Nintendo had a far better DS launch in the US then they had in Japan, yes there was the fact that they went to market on a weekday (of all things) but it raises an interesting question, is Nintendo waning in Japan, and if they are could it be possible that Revolution will show up in the US before it shows up in Japan?

After selling so many DS units in North America and getting the jump on Sony by a few months at least, I think it's very possible that Ninty could try and do the same thing and launch their next console in the US before Sony manage to bring the PS3 across from Japan.

    Thoughts?

It's interesting to consider that US companies are behind all three of the next gen systems. All three use IBM CPUs, ATI will provide the GPU for Revolution and Xbox Next, and NVidia are doing the same for PS3.

US game developers are also on the up. Halo 2, Half Life 2, and Metroid Prime 2 are just a few recent examples of AAA software coming from the States.

It's quite a turnaround, and hardly surprising then that consoles launched there can do well.

As for Revolution in the US first. Sure, why not. Makes sense.

      I hope not.

It means we have to deal with US "retailers" that don't normally have to ship huge amounts of **** across the planet. There will pretty much guarunteed be shortages too, and it will be awful seeing the yanks hawk them on ebay.

Unless its JPN first and I'm wadded with cash at the time, I'll wait til an all-region job comes out.

468,883 DS machines were sold in Japan between 29th Nov and 5th December. Considering they broke 1m overall I presume the US launch wasnt a lot better, especially seeing as it was out earlier there.

Thats really impressive actually. Numbers 2-10 are taken up by GC, DS and GBA.

Plus DS wasn't launched till the 2nd. So that is just THREE days of DS sales in Japan. The DS was much more popular hardware wise in Japan.

Pretty good. Interesting to note that software sales 2 - 10 in total don't beat number 1, Dragons Quest 8.

Pretty good going. Not a big fan of RPG's but the numbers are good.

If Nintendo's name is on it, it will never be released anywhere except Japan first. That's how the game is played in Japanese business.

Dogpile on the new guy! I didn't read the thread, only the topic. So before you jump on me, let me open my pants.

I should have said home console. The DS was treated with a sway towards US release most likely to hit the after thanksgiving sales and the Christmas rush. But it's basically a simultaneous launch, unless you want to call a little less than two weeks a difference, given the hindred shipping lag.
