    The history of Ridge

Playing Ridge Racers is a bit like delving into the history of ridge and it is ****ing cool as.

So what are people's favourite segments?
Favourite music, would be Lightning Luge from Rage.
Track - The first one on rage - nice and simple but ****ing quick.
Style. R4 had the style with the clean interface and clear clear skies. And Reiko too.... Anything else to add?

Great thread, look forward to reading everyone's responses.

    personally...

Favourite Music: Rare Hero 2 - I thought the original Rare Hero was the premier track in the first game and was always more up for a race when it came through on random play but with Rare Hero 2, Namco took it to another level. It feels like a perfect music to race to and that Pac-Man sample in the middle is genius.
Runner Up - Grip (I think Ridge music peaked at Ridge Racer 2)

Favourite Course: Expert (Ridge Racer Revolution) - mainly for the absolutely thrilling narrow tunnel section. I remember the first time I ran that section I could not imagine how to nail it perfectly. You need to have perfecr control of your initiation and recovery of your drift but when you race through that tunnel at full speed (in White Angel to further the effect) it is awesome.
Runner Up - Above the City (Ridge Racer V)

Style: Ridge Racer V - So slick and that shilouette effect was so effective.

Saif's a legend! I havent had a chance to give the new one a rinse yet but if it's cool I'll post what I feel so far, I'll come back once I've proper buss-up the new one!

      Favourite music:
Rotterdam Nation - this is what got me hooked on the game in the first place! I'd been playing Virtua Racing a lot in the arcades and totally wasnt ready for this game. First time I played it I was on a pill and that Rotterdam Nation choon, the easy yet excellent handling, the insane speed and slick detailed visuals blew my mind.
      Runners-up: Naked Glow (R4)
      Mathemabeats (sp?) (Rave Racer)
      Heart to Heart (Rave Racer)

Track - If I had to choose one it would have to be Wonder Hill, the vibe the sunset creates is so laid back, yet the course is fast and there's some sick little corners in there!

      Style:
R4 by miles! Everything fits so beautifully from the opening movie through the menus to the races to the ending - it's all so well designed and still to this day gorgeous. R4 has it's own surreal yet stylish world and it has an incredible vibe to it - that's what I love most about it. Each course is set in a different time of day and the artists have captured the mood of each perfectly, simply by superb use of colour, these tracks through PS1 hardware are more beautiful than most modern racing games for this reason.

        Well!

Favourite music: Nightride by Mijk Van Dijk. Then maybe Tsui Tsui by "U". So many great soundtracks... hope Ridge Racers lives up to it's predecessors.

Favourite course: possibly Greenfield from Ridges 1 and 5.

Style: 5. Oh yes. Love it. My fave presentation of any game ever. Nice little animating menus, cool music (LOLO1010 pwns), the silouette is brilliant and the Boom Boom Satellites intro roxx0rs.

        Saur - Rotterdam Nation? Mental!!!1

Does R:Racing Evolution count? If so, I take the music from that over all other Ridge Racer games. That intro rawked. Shame the game was ass though.

Apart from that, it's Ridge Racer Type 4 for style, and playability. Longevity was insane (them secret cars were :O ) and they even got the Grip handling right, even if the Drift handling was far more fun.

And Eat Em Up is the best secret song ever.

It's RR4 all over for me - beautiful to look at, wonderful to play. Fabulous music too.

In fact, I want to be playing it right now.

What does everyone see in R4 menu? It is in my view the worst menu system of the lot. Shocking delays between menu transisions, pages upon pages of pointless text from your manager and and seems to cluttered. RRV menu seems far superior to R4 menu for me. Nicely laid out with no clutter, menu tranisions are pretty quick and looks very nice especially the main menu with the silloutte of the girl. I agree the opening movie on R4 is class though.

Fav Music: Way to hard to pick one. Original Ridge racer track always has a place in my heart. Also like most of Kohta stuff especially junx (Mijk Van Dijk remix) of RRV. Quite like Kohta Night stream of the New Ridge Racers aswell. Can`t really think of any music tracks i dislike of any of the ridge racers tbh.

Fav Track: Has to be the classic sunny beach Ridge track for me with outerpass being a close second. City track of Rave racer could take my top spot though once i`ve spent abit of time with it on the new ridge racers.

Favourite music: Hard choice this Dare Devil tune from RRV or Boom Boom Satellites from RRV.

Favourite course: Original first Ridge Racer track for me (Sunny Beach). I so love the final bend on it n just drifting rnd it.

Style: RRV all the way imo the comentator as well i loved. Plus nothing beats "You're listening to Ridge City FM...The City Is Yours".

Urgh the RRV commentator was horrible! I've just had an hours' bash on this game after this thread, and if he was real, he'd get a throttling. Julian Clary as a commentator, no thanks :\

So Ridge Racer history is basically...

                            Ridge Racer Type 4 (Playstation)
Ridge Raver V (Playstation 2, Arcade)
                            Ridge Racer 64 (Nintendo 64)
Ridge Racer Revolutions (Xbox, Gamecube, Playstation 2)

                            Ridge Racers (Sony PSP)

Think thats all of them in release order...

Favourite music : The ragga jungle one in Rave Racer that I can't remember the name of...

Favourite Track : The City Track in Rave Racer

Mmmm, Rotterdam Nation. One Sunday the machine in our arcade was set to 6 goes for a pound. After several hours of play skin was hanging from my hands and my ears were ringing from HOW LOUD the machine was. Fabulous.

Of course, all four arcades in my town are long since dead. *sigh*
