Rip off prices for early adopters.

Was just reading a thread on rllmuk where some guy said CEX in Leeds have a PSP for ?425. One of the posters said he paid ?800 for a DC with Sega Rallyand a VMU!
Thats the biggest rip off ive ever heard of,i paid ?480 for a SFC with SMW from Shekhana on TCR.
So own up,how much have you been stung for in the past to have the latest console?

I paid 600 quid for a psx but then again, I am a bell end. I paid loads for my super famico too but I can't remember how much.

I used to pay for the sake of early adoption. But then I used to earn lots of cash.

These days my funds are somewhat limited. So I don't bother. (No DS or PSP round my house just yet - much as I'd love a PSP).

      Simple as that really

i recall paying a bloke in Luton ?130 for the jap version of Super Mario Kart on the N64 with the special ltd edition 2 tone black/grey controller.

wasn't a patch on the SNES version.

I don't count the ?350 I coughed up for a PSP as a rip off as its such a thing of beauty.

I'd say the PSP is just about in the reasonable bracket there. Got that Jpn Mario Kart off ebay for ?22 recently with the controller(sorry).

Yea, I mean its only a rip off if you feel ripped off. I bought my DS + Mario from an Import shop in London, for 199 quid. I could have got the same deal AND another game for LESS if I had done it via a importer on the net, or taken up one of the many offers on Ebay.
Thing was, I was desperate for it, was VFERY wary of getting it off the net, so considered the higher price was worth it for having it right there and then , with peace of mind in case things went wrong,
              which they aint, yet!

a few daft prices ive paid at release.

JPN DC with July, Pen Pen and VF3 - ?330
JPN Playstation with Ridge Racer - ?470
JPN Vampire (Darkstalkers) on psone - ?75
                JPN Tekken 3 - ?70
JPN Xmen vs Street Fighter + Ram pack - ?80
JPN GC with Super Monkey Ball and Wave Race - ?280
                JPN VF2 on Saturn ?65
JPN SF Zero on saturn - ?80

Some not that obscene, i think the local importer was feeling sorry for me. Payed a daft amount for a N64 but forgot the amount

I paid ?600 for a US Xbox and Halo from my local Indie, only to go home and it not work with my TV, so I had to shell out another ?1300 for a new TV

                  No regrets though

i actually arranged my 'surprise' honeymoon to be in Boston so I could be in the US the week the N64 came out, so although technically not paying over the odds for the console (I got it from EB) it still counts as an extreme overall 'price'.
good thread this, bringing back memories, I also recall doing ?85 for Street Fighter 2 on the SNES from Shekhana when it used to be in Wood Green.

I remember shelling out 70 notes for a US copy of SF2 on the SNES same for a US copy of Starfox on the SNES .

I've not done too bad in the past. A few things that stick in my mind are:

Metal Gear Solid (JPN) - ?65 from a mail order ad in Edge. It was worth it though.
PAL Xbox - ?440 it was with a few games. Feck me what a sting!

Also spent a few quid on importing PSO + BBA + ASCII Keyboard for the Gamecube although it did get used a fair bit. My PSP worked out at around ?250 for a value pack but I do not feel ripped off one bit. Compared to that Xbox it's a steal. And I actually use it

Its still there mate. Where do you live. I lost count of how much i gave that place over the years, although recently some work experience kid sold me some DC Twin Sticks, new and boxed, for a tenner.
                          So were even i reckon.

                            Here's a few that spring to mind;

Jap Street Fighter 2 SFC ?70
US Street Fighter 2 Turbo SNES ?80
                            Jap Saturn console ?550
                            US PlayStation console ?400
                            Jap Tekken 3 PSX ?80
                            US Wave Race N64 ?75

The funny thing is as crazy as some of these prices sound I definetly got my moneys worth, which is more than I can say for most of the games I buy today usually at less than retail price.

Some import shops had Saturn & Playstations for ?1000 each in the first week of release. I know some fool who payed ?800 for playstaion 2 with no games.

Jap MD with Altered Beast from Mention Technical Service in Scotland ?280
Jap PC Engine with Tales of the Monster Path from Mention ?280
Jap Snes with Bombuzal & F-Zero from Console Conepts ?400
Jap Saturn with Virtua Fighter from a chippy ?400
Jap N64 with Mario & Pilotwings from the chippy again ?500-550
Jap Dreamcast with Sega rally, i think, have to check ?400
Jap Spice Gamecube with memory card from Goblin Games ?280
US Xbox of my girlfriends sister who lives in L.A $299

Every console worth every penny, more so the early consoles which came out nearly year before the uk release. Also had a Atari Jaguar, tyring to erase that from my memory, everything about that console was ****, oh loved Tempest 2000 & AVP was ok.
