I don't consider myself to be a retard and I have very much enjoyed playing Mario 64 DS, I find some of the mini games to be extremely addictive and they provide me with the kind of portable gaming experience I am looking for. That is, something that I can pick up and play for a few minutes or for a few hours. I have played the original on the n64 but I've never finished it(since I borrowed my cousins copy). Therefore I think this has been a worthwhile purchase for myself. I normally don't respond to these types of posts, but I'm in a bad mood and this part of your post really pissed me off.

Do I have unconditional love for nintendo? No I don't, I have found some of there games this gen to be lackluster in comparison to their predecessors.

Also to the original poster. I don't think sequels are a bad thing unless they really mess up the game(which I've rarely found to be the case). At the end of the day all I'm interested in is being entertained for the money I put forward to purchase the game. In the past year I have played some fantastic games some of which have been sequels in established games series' such as Half Life 2, Pikmin 2 and Thief: Deadly Shadows to name a few. I've also played some original games which I've found to be brilliant, the one that springs to mind the most is probably Katamari Damacy.

Also as has already been said there have been numerous posts/threads of this nature that I have seen in my short time here.

Being a sequel I guess Capcom shouldn't have bothered making Resident Evil 4.

thats taking it some what out of context

there is a difference between Resident Evil 4 and say, MOH: Rising Sun in that Resi 4 took the series in a new direction and turned a series that was going very stale into a fantastic game that had loads of new ideas for the series in. Rising Sun on the other hand nose dived a good series and the resulting game was a mess and a crap mess at that.

what i tried to say in my other post that nintendo aren't as bad as EA as each sequel they bring out offers something new and innovative in most cases. the zelda series being a case in point. they are all mostly the same style of gameplay with all the nuances that make a zelda game but they all offer something new and refreshing. there is no way you could say that wind waker is to ocarina of time what need for speed underground 2 is to the original.

and my point about retards lapping up mario on the ds is a dig not perhaps at you zappster but at stupid fanboys that pop boners about everything nintendo releases.

i was mostly annoyed at mario ds because nintendo launched a new console that they want loads of people to buy but their premiere launch title is an updated port. i mean, thats more of a slap in the face than anything else. at least it is to me

i feel that its kind of a joke when nintendo need to make a serious go of the ds and all other future projects and all they do is release an updated port that controls badly.

bad example with NFSU, I think the sequal adds alot over the predecessor, but it's still jus stolen ideas from other already availible (and imo better) racers all chavved up with tunes of da month and Kelly Brooks tits. And will they please sort the sodding frame rate out.

They do two zeldas per generation at the very max, the wait for OOT was over 5 years. Compare that to EA and sony who are on a yearly schedule (fifa, madden, jak ,ratchet, ssx etc)

              Mario Sunshine -
Yes it is, it was the sequel to Mario 64.
Only one Mario game per generation. Sunshine is the closest thing to a traditional platformer, all its competition are adventure games. That alone makes it original.

Nintendo and EA are as bad as each other, as long as people keep buying into the countless Fifa's, NHL's, Marios, Zeldas, Etc, Etc.
They are not many new Mario and Zelda games. I think you are counting rereleases which dont count as a sequel. Or games that feature mario, for example Paper Mario which is an original title, but i'm sure people like you will consider it "another sequel" cos Mario is in the title.

Hence the sequels, the DS is proof, Nintendo could've easily made new IP for the launch of that system, but they didn't they simply played it safe by putting out a ten year old game (Mario DS, which is an excellent game).
They didnt have the time for new IPs all the launch DS games had only a few months of development. They had something like 9 months to make games for launch.

                They do, you tell me?

OK now and again they have a sudden shot of insperation or madness but they do overuse there character IP's many of which haven't been developed by them just pilfered through various dodgy dealings.
Thats like saying Marvel should stop having X-men characters apearing in comic books because they are getting old.
People still enjoy the characters and Nintendo use their characters in orginal titles most of the time.

Hang on then so acctually they probably are as bad as EA, I do have a Gamecube and I loved Nintendos past consoles but I am less and less impressed by there "original" titles and tend to buy more 3rd party games on the cube now.
I can't think of a 3rd party more consistant than Nintendo. The ratings speak for themselves.

You have some valid points mate, but the fact IS it's only Nintendo fanboys that buy their hardware/software! Their hardware/software doesn't appeal to a wider demographic! Hence the poor sales the world over for their current console (GC) and previous console (N64).

And by continuing to release mario after mario and zelda after zelda (and to another extent rereleases of their back catalouge). Isn't encouraging a new demographic to their systems.

The article under my original post (read it) was spot on analysing the way Nintendo do business. People will/and have gotten fed up with saving the princess, their games no longer appeal to Nintendo gamers (myself being one) and wider audiences alike. And as long as they keep pumping out current IP, then they'll continue to be third in the gaming industry (in the UK/US). So, in MY opinion Nintendo are as bad as EA, and like EA they've been releasing the same IP for years, with little differences. Developers like Capcom, Sega, Konami, SquareEnix and co maybe release sequels, but they also release new IP. More so than Nintendo!

The FACT is though, Nintendo aren't half the company they used to be!

Mario Sunshine - Yes it is, it was the sequel to Mario 64. I thought Sunshine was just a stop gap. I thought Mario 128 was the sequel to this, not that it has been seen yet

Yet he didn't explain, just like have failed to, how my game of the year for last year (Paper Mario 2) would have been better if it was exactly the same but featured a different character. The games are brilliantly fun (reviews are testament to this, as the threads on this site) so what difference does it actually matter if it was Lugi in the mansion and not Rob, just as long as the game is fun.

I must be the only gamer that acctually likes Nintendo's IP being used XP I like Mario Golf coz it has Mario etc in it, sure it'd be just as fun to play with other characters in it, but the mario universe is something I love about gaming, it's so clearly defined with it's own style that it's easy to get absorbed into, and is what I think gaming is all about.

Incase I sound like a fanboy, you can ask anyone on here, I'm a complete Dreamcast whore
