Yes it's the best installment, but it's essentially the same. At the same time, what more would you want in a racing simulation?

I think for the 'petrol heads' it should score higher, but for people who aren't as keen on the simulation side, the score is about right for "a racing game, which is essentially the same as before".

If it had an online mode, maybe then it should score 1 or 2 higher.
But why should they bias their score to take account of people who will have no interest in the game? A review is primarily for people interested in a game, not those who don't care about it. This is what really pisses me off about most game review systems...if a game is only for a specific audience then fair enough it's not going to appeal to anyone else. That should be self-explanatory but the game shouldn't be penalised (no matter how good it is) just because it's aiming itself at a hardcore audience.

How many PS2 magazines scored SC2 above Virtua Fighter 4, even though VF is far better? Plenty of them did and they did it because they thought it was easier for newbies to play. Sorry but that's a ridiculous reason to criticise a game

Well RE 1, 2 and 3 cover the main arc of the umbrealla story.

Whereas 0, Code veronica, gun survivor's, Outbreak and the few others follow other non-central characters and dont cover much ground story wise. Also the main three games are my favourite!

Again, read the review text. They gave it a 7 because it is still flawed as a game. Those flaws are well known, because they were also present in previous releases. Many of its competitors have either solved or avoided them already, but the admirable effort Polyphony have put into the handling model isn't reflected in these areas.

Similarly, I'd argue that Soul Calibur (1, anyway) does deserve to be rated higher than the VF series, since it shows that you can cater for us wusses without breaking the game for the hardcore.

The cover is dreaful. Wow, a glossy eyeball. Great. Haven't read Penn yet. I want to give it the time it needs to absorb all the informarion and opinions from it. Then give it a good kicking here.

I have had a look at the Skies of Arcadia thing. I don't agree with some of it. While the flavour of the game, the exploration (which is what made it so special) is mentioned in detail, I'm not sure about the discussion of the fighting system. The magic was useless, for a start. More importantly, while it references the non-annoying Heroness of Vyse, it manages to come to the conclusion there was no love element between the three leads. Balls. There is a point in the game that pretty much states "This is a love triangle, even if nothing happens." I'm sure people who have played the game know what I mean.

Still, "Look out, Air Pirates!" [waves arms in air]

Owning copies of Winning Eleven since 4 and GT since GT1 i can say that Gran Turismo has never added things to itself that should really be there, that Winning Eleven has e.g. Liscened teams for Winning Eleven which have been added. For Gran Turismo i think it's car damage for me is one big mistake leaving out, no matter how hard it is to produce, and two the bloody A.I do Polyphony not look at F355 Challenge and think maybe our cars need to react like this? They originally said this would not be in GT4 because of the online mode then ditched the online idea and still left it out. If Project Gotham can introduce car damage and TOCA race driver, why can't Gran Turismo?

Good news for Mikami-San and his team and Capcom he is truly a god amoung game producers, 9 fully deserved

Car damage is pointless unless it actually afects how the car drives PGR2 didn't if I remember.

Winning 11 has evolved with each edition but I wonder how different gt4 would be in comparison to the original, anyone compared recently?

Got my copy today. The RE4 review read rather strangely. Positive by and large, but then turned into something of a rant in the last section. Can't say I agree with any of their points, especially the dialogue which I thought was on the whole excellent and very well written and acted. Leon is a very cool character.

GT4 review though made sense. The series does have a lot of problems which have yet to be fixed. That said, it's still a far slicker experience than any similar game on other platforms. The 30fps Xbox racers just can't compete, even with car damage and online play.

Couple of point if the likes of VF 4 EVO can get marked down in EDGE for being a Evo of part 4 Then it?s own fair that?s the likes of Pro Evo get marked down as well. Even though it was obvious the reviewer of VF Evo played it for all for 5 mins .

Not all X-Box racers run at 30 fps. Try playing the likes of RS II, Sega GT, TOCA II, Moto GP II.

Didn't enjoy this issue and it has made me seriously consider my mag sub. Two poor issues in a rwo imho of course. The whole thing felt disjointed

Of course, but the two big ones which are compared to GT do - PGR2 and Forza.

OutRun2 is 60fps and a truly glorious game in every way.

5/10 for The Punisher? I bought the US version of that and i haven't enjoyed a single player game as much in months.

No doubt they labelled it as 'pointless violence' and carried on whistling out their collective arse >/

No, they actually said the violence was somewhat enjoyable and even creative in some of the "quick kill" situations...

It got 5 because it really is a mainly joyless and uninspired by-the-numbers trudge through tedious firefights. Max Payne 2 without the fun. And yes, I have played it, and even more embarrassingly, yes, I like the Punisher...

just realised that the only game in this issue for gamecube (both preview + review) is re4? nothing else on the horizon for ninty?
