    XBOX's new cable recall.

Anyone else got their cable yet?

I'm impressed. It's a nice bit of kit, comes with a power cut-off switch with LED.

Better than getting your house burnt down anyway.

The trouble with fitting switches and LED's to an Xbox mains cable is that it contaminates the power feeding your Xbox which is translated into a poorer picture quality. It's very slight ofcourse but it is noticeable.

Yeah, I got mine but I haven't tried it yet. It looks specifically designed to reduce MS' liability in case somebody gets hurt.

Someone gave a theory behind the cable replacement on another site, but bear in mind it's just someone's opinion and not a proven fact:

The real problem is the Foxlink power supply. There have been numerous reports of "loose power connectors" in xboxes, and the cause of this is that the solder joints on the PSU have actually broken where the connector mounts to the board, which can result in the xbox not powering on, or possibly even sparks, smoke, and fire.
So, instead of taking the costly duty of recalling all older xboxes, what do they do? They give you a power cord with this huge GFI thing. This in no way will solve the problem, it is merely a bandaid. So, when your PSU sparks and shorts out, it just trips a switch instead of catching fire, but your xbox still doesn't work.
Who knows eh? But it's a plausible theory.

I'm still umming and aahing about bothering. I don't leave the XBox plugged in when I'm not using it anyway (and yes, the fact that I've got to tell it the time every bloody time I want to play OutRun2 is pissing annoying).

I've had my 1.0 Xbox in bits so many times it's untrue, and subjected it to my monkeyman-subtle attempts at moddery.

It's still fine. If anyone's PSU was going to go up in flames, it'd be mine.

It's free - you might as well order one. I don't leave my Xbox plugged in when not playing it either, but I figured it means I've at least got a spare in case I ever lose one.

I fear you're underestimating the Laze factor.

I'll get round to ordering one eventually - it means actually lifting up my XBrick and risking a further hernia.

Had my 'Your order has being shipped' email today. Still it estimates 3 weeks! They obviously use 'snail mail'.

Yup, I'm going to get one too. It'd be a standard connection on the end so will fit most consoles, can never have enough of those leads.

So true, come in handy of you have a spaghetti junction of wires around the back of your console and you want to disconnect it to take elsewhere.

Youd struggle to get many of these down the back of your tele.
