I cant work out the flimsy ****e, o.k. its got a hinged top just like loads of mobile and they seem to stay in one piece.

People aren't stupid they'll work it out, mind you hype does go a long way.

Are you talking about ease of use or fitting the technology in the box? If the latter, that's probably not a factor, because my IBM Workpad (Palm thingy) is wafer thin with a superb touchscreen.

I think he means ease of use, it would be difficult to use as a viable control method if it were any smaller.
I concur with your point on wafer thing touch screens though, I have an ASUS ppc and I hardly notice carrying it around it is so thin

it seems pretty contrary but, i don't have a problem with the *look* of the ds's design. feel wise, i find the edge of the console digs into the hand a little; but it's nothing major...

i can't see how the form factor could be any smaller; unless you removed the gba port you can't get any thinner on the bottom half & you can't get any less wide without removing the traditional controls.

i guess a touchscreen input only / non-gba compatible version *could* have an sp-like format, but it'd be a radical move to make - i've a feeling there's a limit on what you can do without additional controls...

here's something interesting i've noticed: chicks did the ds's design *way* more than guys... most lads drool over the psp's screen / shiny black techno loveliness, but more lasses love the ds's silvery clamshell.

and: (on topic) - i never thought i'd agree with any statement that included the words "sky news" & "fair and balanced"!

I was trying to remember where but it's gone I'm afraid. It was in an interview with some Nintendo guy, probably at GDC. He said the R&D guys were always working on stuff and were looking at DS.

If I remember where I saw it I'll post a link.

For mainstream critics thats a pretty decent review. I remember reading a sunday times review of MGS3 afew weeks back only too see they gave it a 2/5 claiming it was far too slowpaced below average action game, with too many irrelavent cutscenes. Some people just dont get it...

Comments on the cheap design of the DS are wholly justified though. It's not attractive and does not compare to previous GameBoy designs. And I know it isn't a GameBoy but let's face it, it's a hand-held console and it's made by Nintendo. Purely a Nintendo business decision not to call it GBDS. Love the two games my nipper has for it though
