PS2 and PSP, worth owning both?

I can't speak for the PSP, but I'd definitely recommend the PS2 (new slimline version anyway). I held back from buying it until last Christmas, because I'd heard all sorts of nonsense about it not having original/interesting games.
It's not true.
I've now got a dozen amazing NTSC and PAL shoot 'em ups (compared to the Cube's 3 + the reworked Star Soldier) - Gradius is just the start, but there's stuff like DoDonPachi Daioujou and ESPGaluda and Gigawing Generations to get your teeth into, and loads more (quite apart from all the cheap ones you can still buy for the PSX).
Then there's ICO. And Gregory Horror Show, Flipnic and Fantavision. GT4, of course (or GT3 for a fiver pretty much everywhere). If you like quirky puzzle games there's Bombastic, Detonator and Puyo Puyo. If you like first-person hack 'em ups, there's Maximo and Army of Zin. Then there's God of War to look forward to...
But the best thing of all is that, this being late in the PS2's life, most of the games you can buy will be under a tenner off eBay; and stuff like ICO is worth paying extra for anyway.
Buy one. Seriously. You'll be frightened to take your PSP outside anyway.

Today I finally bought a pstwo + GT4 + Fifa street (which is ebay bound) for only ?129.99 from Game. I then went into Gamestation and bought VF4 evo + Rtype final for ?20.99, and I am chuffed to bits with my purchase.
Have been playing VF4 evo a bit this evening, and found this game seems to be on a total other level than stuff like DOA which I had previously played on the Xbox, and I found it a very brutal and exciting game to play.
Also I was pleased to notice in GS many games for future reference which I would like to get, games such as Disgaea and Bujingai, which I have read are decent, there seems to be a lot of good stuff on this machine

PS2 and PSP are both essential - you dont have to buy the same game twice if its on both formats, just get the version you prefer. The PSP has given the opportunity to create some real gems, Lumines would never have been put on PS2 and the DS can't technically do it. I hope to see some proper arcade ports to PSP, the pick up and play thing does it wonders. Hell, Crazy Taxi on it might actually be worthwhile - I'd rather pay ?20 to buy the game on a portable that I can have quick goes on, but paying that to confine yourself to your house for what is essentially and arcade game is a bit ****. I want Senko no Ronde on PSP with wifi please. And a Space Channel 5 compilation. Ta.

I'm pretty sure that PSP games will have the ability to be played back on PS3 wheteher built in or add on.
Wipeout Pure and Ridge Racers are reason enough to own both right now.

Along with Lumines. And Mercury just around the corner.
Then there are the lesser tier of games that are interesting enough all the same such as Metal Gear Acid, Ape Escape and Twisted Metal. Not to mention a number of projects just around the corner.
I think the PSP has been unfairly dumped on by some peeps around here. The initial batch of games is mixed in terms of quality, but it's by no means rotten.

I'm not going to jump on the bangwagon and bash Neko like everyone else is doing, but it's really simple. Do you wan't to play PS2 (and a few original games) on the move/bog/train or would you rather play something a little different from what your used to (which you may not like) and grab a DS?
