One thing you should rarely do though is judge a game by its previous incarnations, VF4Evo is so refined as a single player game is shocking the leap from VF3 and every other 3D fighter is incredible.
And dont play the PC versions of Virtua Fighter (no wonder you prefer Soul Calibur).

Anyway, back to the topic in hand. Isn't it surprising that though the given score for P.N.03 or whatever was 7/10, yet most of the other reviewers would have given it 5 or under? There's a difference between harsh marking and plain smugness.
And any mag that tries to promote itself as above everything else, yet insists on having a small column for text and many poor qualitiy pictures for reviews is asking for trouble.
In other news, I actually had a quick scan through Games TM today. Doesn't seem that bad. Though it had two pictures that may have sullied my enjoyment of the Wind Waker.

First of all, read the reviews. One of the reasons Edge decided to hide the scores this month was the way people discuss the scores out of context on message boards. I think the reviews work far better without the scores. Give it a try.
Secondly, if you actually bother to read their reviews of DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou and PN03 you would have see that they have done exactly what you have asked them to. Both games are reviewed from the persepctive you asked for. They talk about skill perfection and score achievement.
Can't you lot at least be happy about this minor victory?

@ everyone who is bitching about Edge scores
Its their opinion! Its not gospel. So what, the reviewer didnt like VF Evo, does that make it a **** game? No. So the reviewer liked SC2, does that make it a brilliant game? No. It is thier opinion. If your stupid enough to buy a game based purely on one magazines review then its your own fault if you dont like it. Only you know what type of games appeal to you. Pro Evo Soccer got a 9/10 - am I going to rush out and buy it? No, because I think football games are ****e. Use your head when reading these things people. Not everyone is a hardcore shooter fan and not everyone is a hardcore fighter fan. Fans of genres will enjoy a game more than those who do not follow the genre.
end rant.

Screw the reviews! Tell me what the collectors feature is this month so I can start buying up lots of rare titles for the system on ebay.
???!

???!
Theoretically there could be an insider trading scam going on at Edge what with the artificially inflated prices of titles after publication concerning the collectors series. That's the real reason why they keep misquoting the prices.

Anyway, I find it quite ironic that, in the issue where Edge make a point of people picking at the scores they give games as opposed to the text, here we once again find ourselves.
As far as the whole VF vs SC argument goes, maybe they just didn't like VF as much as SC? As someone pointed out, their scores for the current titles reflect the scores they gave to the forebearer titles, making it a very consistent reflection of their views and reviews. This is purely from a Devils Advocate point of view, but it seems to me that this is likely to be the case. I can speak objectively, because I hate both series of games - not that I'm accusing anyone of bias - and I really don't think Edge are going to make such a deliberate mistake as to have their left hand do one thing and the right do the other.
Perhaps one of the problems is indeed that they have a one size fits all persona, but this matter isn't an easily solve-able one, and giving individual credence to review authors isn't going to stop the bitching. As Edge themselves point out in a feature this very issue, game reviewing is a tricky aspect to any magazine, and they are never going to please everbody, no matter who they are. The same could be said of anyone or anywhere - if I went by NTSC-UK reviews, I would have bought VF4 Evo based off of its 10/10 score and been sorely disappointed. Alternately, if I had chosen to ignore Edge's review of Halo on principle, I would have missed what turned out to be one of the best game I've played since I first picked up a joypad.
I do think Edge get a kick out of cracking folk up like this though.

Ignore what's gone on in the past and just concentrate on the current. The scoring gimmick may signify a change of direction at Edge towers. Isn't that what you all want or will some of you just slag Edge every month regardless.
FFS, PN03 scores 7/10, a whole one point different from our very own review and apparently they didn't "get" the game.
