I've been playing games since the Aquarius days.
Surely a hardcore gamer is someone who is still playing computer games - for fun, today. Like me. And many Edge readers, and many people here.

Thats true dedication. Dedication to the media, not the game.
Not this **** about learning another language (although i respect those who do).
I can't read any japanese, but i stil play and enjoy japanese games.
Of course, i can't play RPGs, but they're only interactive stories, so i can finish a book quicker.

But as for dedication, bollocks. I want a real life.
If you think your hardcore by comitting yourself to one game until your unbeatable - then your life will slowly whisk away.
Gaming should be a hobby, but like any hobby, you got to draw the line.

And anyway, how many of you complain that online games are spoilt by truely dedicated gamers (IE those hardcore guys) owning your ass?

Okay, so most of you could take me in the majority of genres, but so what? Who in life really cares?

Once you realise that the people who count don't give a **** how good you are at a game, the fun in that game is gone, and by the time you've realised it, so is your life.

Don't take it to heart. Its only a game.

Before Redeye criticises *anybody* he needs to take his thumb out of his ar*e and drop the sneering pretentious faux cynical writing style. It's all very well having a pop at the 'hardcore', but if you're going to write a column every month giving off the air of somebody who has seen it all and is above it all, perhaps it's time to step back and look in the mirror. If Redeye is anything like the image he portrays in his column, then I can't imagine him as anything less than a pretentious tosser.

I'm not Edge-bashing. I quite like Edge (despite its delusions of being more than a magazine about videogames), but Redeye's column is painful.

You'd rather every games column had the sound of the BBC's gaming correspondent? It's a different writing style, if you don't like it, which it seems you don't, that's fine, but other people do. It's a breath of fresh air in some ways. It's a place to take your imagination, and while cyberpunk is a huge clich?, sometimes it's nice to take your mind there.
Having just read the article, I'd say that any people who think it was aimed specifically at this forum have a massive problem within themselves. There's a lot of Edge negativity around here, which incidentally doesn't flow the other way unless provoked, and while you're entitled to your opinions of course, I doubt that a publication such as Edge would target something as comparatively small as a site like NTSC. All he had to do was mention discussion boards on the internet and paranoiac NTSC loyalists hackles are raised. There are an infinite number of threads like the ones mentioned all over the internet, just because a few appeared on your forum once, doesn't mean he's talking about you. Get something to do. Personally, I enjoy the articles and forums on this site, but it's not the only place I visit, there's a whole internet out there beyond your Favourites folder.
To everyone else who has a problem with the article, the snobby attitude that is prevalent in numerous forums around the internet is your own problem if you take offense at someone commenting on it. You're missing out on plenty of good games by instantly judging and dismissing them based on your elite standards. I guess that means more copies for people who find games fun.
Meanwhile, while I often find myself agreeing with the stuff he posts, the snivelling elitist head-up-arse dronings of Sidez in this particular thread are another thing entirely, and infinitely more banal than any Redeye column could ever be.
