    Offended by a game?

Have you ever found content in a game to be offensive? As games players i guess we are all used to any shock tactic a developer can throw at us but newcomers may beg to differ, especially parents looking over little Jonny's shoulder at the game they just bought him for his birthday. But does any game make you stop and think?

I can't think of any game that made me feel uncomfortable playing it. There are games i won't let the kids play and i will pause them if they came into the room but apart from gore and bad language what other issues could be considered taboo?

Can honestly say I've never been shocked or appalled to the point where a game's had to go off.

A few years back, a mate showed me Thrill Kill on the PSone, which I believe was canned for being too taboo. It was weird and insinuated a fair bit but I don't believe it needed the chop, just a rating. Manhunt was weird too but I still played it. As long as you don't go reinacting some of the more shocking things you see, you're pretty safe

I had a copy of Thrill Kill. Was the game ever finished or did I have a buggered copy.

It wasn't offensive to me but the orgasmic tones of the dominatrix did get me slightly aroused oo err...

The only game that I've ever found offensive was GTA San Andreas. That was only for the first few hours. I just found all the gangsta speak just too overblown and too hardcore for mainstream console entertainment. Shock of the new I suppose.

I find extremely bad games offensive. What I find offensive is that publishers and developers seem to think that someone will actually buy the tripe they put out (of course, a lot of people do). I mean how does it even get past testing?!

I also find offensive war games that only give one side of the story (usually American) and make the Americans out to be some sort of infallible heroes battling the forces of Evil(R). Also war games that have the nerve to make out that by playing the game you'll understand even a little of the pain and suffering of all those people that died in the war. One example is one war game (can't remember which) that has a Cannon Foddder like memorial of all the characters that died during the level. Patronising and deeply offensive. At least Cannon Fodder was not trying to portray a real conflict, it was a comedy war game.

Don't get me started on the Tomb Raider grunts and groans. Not offensive, but very embarrasing playing with sound up with other people in the house.

From what I've read and been told, it was finished. EA then bought Virgin and canned it...didn't fit their image A slightly altered version was put forward where the groans were replaced with laughter but it was still pretty much as the original and so canned it stayed. The engine went on to be part of some Wu-Tang fighting game.

I can see GTA SA's beginning opening a few eyes... it's pretty heavy from the off. The Rockstar logo on the cover told me to prepare for anything though

Ive never been offended by a game but like another poster GTA SA did shock me.

But rather than enjoying the games, GTA and Soldier of fortune were hard for me to play actually. In soldier of fortune I got sick and quite low because of the constant violance. See enemy, click button, human body falls apart and implodes.

I have quite a weak stomach and SOF and GTA got a bit close to the knuckle im affraid. They are good games but constant gore in games and movies is hard for me stomach.

I think the only game that was very violent but I was ok with is the MGS series. Everything has a concequence and violence is no diffrent, and MGS punishes you for it or shows you the concequences in a great way.

But give me animal crossing any day!

Some of the things I'm hearing about God of War make me a little uncomfortable. It's not so much the violence and gore, I've been playing games like it for a while. It's more the (possible God of War spoiler)

sexual minigame(s) that are apparently in the game, whereby you have threesomes or whatever. I don't know the specifics but it's stuff like that, that makes me feel uncomfortable whilst playing a game. Hopefully you can skip it because quite frankly it's embarassing and I honestly wouldn't be caught dead playing that in front of my family/friends. I'm not sure if it's spoiler worthy but I put it in tags to be on the safe side.

I usually judge a game by how I think my parents would view it (and they usually frown upon sexual content in any form really) and/or how my family/friends would react to seeing it.

I found san andreas uncomfortable to play, the characters all sit around smoking drugs, then when they are bored go out and kill someone. I found it quite horrific for some reason

San Andreas seemed to be a really good game, but I've not made it more than about an hour in, because I wouldn't play it when my son was around, and then got too into other games and abandoned it. Pity, as I've pretty much completed every previous game in the series (apart from 2, which I'm ****e at).

I had a copy of Thrill Kill. It was quite funny actually.

I've never been offended by a game's content, but as the whole shock thing seems to be the new trend, developers are going to try and up the ante as much as possible.

Expect 'Parental Advisory Explicit Content' stickers on games. Then watch the sales skyrocket as impressionable teens buy into it.

I've been shocked (or I should say impressed) with how coy Konami have played the Silent Hill series in terms of media publicity. The series has been relatively successful without attracting anywhere near the amount of controversy other titles have, while arguably being far more disturbing.

The only recent games I find distasteful are the US army funded/backed projects. Or any politically motivated state sponsored videogaming propoganda.

When replaying NARC recently I was shocked at the '80s Reaganite anti-drug, D.A.R.E message.

If you see a crackhead, SHOOT HIM WITH A ROCKET OR HE'LL INFECT YOU WITH HIS DISEASE!

All drug dealers are BLACK and sport ARMOURED WHEELCHAIRS!

If you're a DEA agent you'll get to wear funkily coloured crash helmets and DRIVE A PORSCHE!
