To criticise or enjoy?

On its' own merits, Mario Sunshine is complete crap. I played SMS before Mario 64 and frankly the latter is 100 times superior. On the first level I jumped on a koopa trooper, walked onto the shell, Mario invincibility theme kicks in and the ride along the green hills starts. Within five minutes, I was having more fun than I ever had with SMS. The game is so ****, I snapped the disc in half (something i've never done before but it felt so satisfying).

While Sunshine isn't a patch on Mario 64, it is still better than every other 3D platformer around.
Anyhow, my question is: why did you wait five years+ to play mario 64?

Never owned an N64. By never played Mario 64 I mean in a serious way on my own as opposed to at a friend's.

btw even Miyamoto admits that SMS is not up to scratch.

I did get to stage where I was feeling really critical of games. I too thought it was due to my advanced years that I'd simply lost the spark of fun a great game ignites. Luckily I found out it was just the games I was playing and found I got it back playing Metroid, Zelda, Ghost Recon and Desert Storm.

Infact I've probably gone the otherway and have become more tolerant and less critical. I'm enjoying the Matrix on Xbox.

Just pop a game like crazy taxi or samba in the machine and it always brings a smile to mine and my friends faces. They are just the kind of games that you will always come back to and the ideal "after pub games" easily accsessable and just as fun as when i bought them!
But yeh the gaming scene is becoming a little dry as late! thank god for Japanese developers (no disrespect to you developers in the west) but i would be lost without being able to play Sega,capcom or Ninty magic!
