Its not really dumbing down but the recent Super robot Wars Original Generation games that are being released by Atlus in America for GBA very shorty have suffered from many obscure name changes. They have done this to get round the licensing issues that are created in cross continent Mecha game publishing.

This reminds me of the dubbed Pok?mon cartoon, where Ash, Misty and co. would greedily tuck into what were clearly rice balls while exclaiming "Yum, doughnuts!"

Well who could forget the Street Fighter name swapping? Also the Sick coming out of fighters being toned down to a different colour.

One that im sure i have mentioned before is Onimusha 1, when you fight that woman near the end of the game. Tentacles sprout from her err nether regions in the Jap original. But in all other versions, yah jus see tentacles sprout from out of nowhere, lol.

Oh the classic ninja turtles name became heroe in Europe for some strange reason, and Michaelangelo always had censored nunchuks.

        Oh and err......... SHINE GOT!

Clearly to you, maybe. Probably not quite so clearly to the intended target audience who most likely have never even seen one before.

          Cultural localisation. Necessary evil sometimes.

(There's a bit in Xenosaga part 1 where they eat a curry, but it's what Europeans would call a curry, so there's a cultural explanation in the in-game encyclopedia )

Thrill Kill and Wu Tang weren't the same game, they just shared the same engine.

You're all forgetting Pac-Man which was originally to be called 'Puck-Man'. Was changed for obvious reasons.

It's retarded and frankly it's not the fault of game developers if a few people take offense. I find a whole lot of stuff offensive (such as religion) but I just switch the channel, I don't moan and bitch to the production companies, start petitions, call ambulance chasing lawyers or send death threats.
Yeah, but it's inevitable when something like that happens. Look at the outcry against anything with guns in it whenever there's a school shooting. I guess the scale of 9/11 just made people go even more stupid, banning anything with any reference to planes in them at all.

I've actually got an advert I clipped out of an old magazine that I found - it's for Red Alert 2 which would put it around October 2000, and it shows New York with the WTC front and centre, with ships shelling it from the harbour and a couple of planes flying towards it. The tagline is "Paint the town red"

but i reckon EA just used what was there and converted the rest to wu tang clan

i read about it in the day as i was looking forward to actually buying it

I've played both the PC Engine and MegaCD versions all the way through and they removed from the MegaCD the porn video you find in platos cavern, the part in the shower scene where you can see Katrina nipples through her towel, although I think there was a code to put that back in, they also changed her age from either 15 or 16 to 18 years old.
Saturn and Playstation versions were edited even more although I never understood that as they were only released in Japan like the PC Engine version.

Hmm, the version of Ninja Gaiden I have includes decapitations, it's a PAL version bought in Australia.

The reason being Margaret Thatcher. The only thing she ever did wrong, IMO
