Theres only a few companies that can make its workers feel so desperate and helpless. The worst being in the Leamington Spa countryside!!

Might be a good idea to re-submit your CV again, as the majority don't get through to the interview phase - and if you got that far before you must have been a worthwhile candidate. Might also be wise to mention the fact that you had previously applied but due to circumstances was unable to attend an interview on a cover loetter.

Oh right, Nice one man. Paul saw my work at my final show (I did my MA in liverpool and evo attended) I'll resubmit my work.

Are you working at evo? If you see matt southern, tell him I say hi.

Another possibility would be smaller companies producing mobile (phone) games. Lower budgets, lower tech/ old school (ie. 2d) game structures and smaller teams mean talent, hard work and enthusiasm could make up for the missing experience and not being super-specialized in a specific field.
cool what games have you worked on? who else is a pro artist here!? I'm trying to get my **** together too, prefer digital painting but also am learning character animation, modelling, after effects, 2d animation etc.

          Post some pics please

If you want to get into the games industry that much then, work hard, don't give up, and be original. Oh, and give Szczepaniak a hard slap for expressing such negativity!
                  <sigh>
Firstly, I was exagerating slightly, but anyone who thinks it is anything other than INCREDIBLY difficult is wrong. Look at the bloody ads, and see what they are saying.

Here is one taken from OPM. For your benefit, and anyone who lacks the ability to read correctly, I will highlight certain key things. If Im going too fast for you, just shout, ok?

This is an edited ad for a basic concept artist.

The company's goal is to provide gamers with an intuitive user interface, innovative exciting gameplay, and revolutionary atmospheric visuals. They are currently looking to hire a talented and experienced Concept Artist to work on their forthcoming sure fire hit AAA titles.

Concept Artist Prerequisites: Should have either a degree or at least 2 years professional production experience in lieu of.

REQUIREMENTS: All of the above with at least 2 yrs. Cinematic/games industry experience, 1?2 yrs. Feature film experience would make the successful candidate stand out from the crowd but is not essential. Sample pictures or link to webpage, which shows sample work. Ability to create concept drawings based... EDITED

The important thing here, is to notice that one of the requirements is 2 years PAST EXPERIENCE already in the industry. I have yet to see ads that ask for anything other than highly experienced people.

How the **** does anyone expect anyone else to break INTO the industry, if you ALREADY need several years before being able to do so.

I want them to be actively seeking fresh Uni graduates who have NO experience but a sense of gusto and real geniune talent. If you only hire people with past experience in the industry, then you are only recycling people already there.

If you can't see the "chicken and the egg" or "catch-22" problem here, then I can't help you!

For whatever its worth, I say goodluck to brokeback trying to get in, the industry needs fresh blood. But I am also a cynical realist for realising how difficult it really is.

Have you not been to University? Have you not seen the amount of companies that come to try to tempt talented graduates into their company? I was sat in one a few weeks ago with Gunstar Hero up there just the other week.

                      Extremely nice work there Gunstar.

I couldn't agree more. Why do people only want to hire cynical old men with no real interest in games? why can't they just open the ****ing doors and judge someone on their own merits?

It's a ****ing wank industry run by clueless people (in the main)

Edit: sorry for being crude. I was just angry.
