Pokemon Blue was one of mine. Way back I'd spend hours perfecting my teams of Pokemon, I'd have a primary team all levelled up to LVL100, which were mainly the really strong Pokemon plus my favourite(which was and still is Articuno). Then I'd have secondary teams of cool looking pokemon, cute looking pokemon, fire, water, grass teams etc..... I think I clocked up about 250 hours on that game in total

Recently it's been Disgaea, Polarium, Lumines, Meteos, Yoshi's Touch and Go, Devil May Cry 3 and Half Life2.

My biggest life suckers have been the original Elite on the BBC. I really do dread to think how many hours I played that. Suffice to say I went from Harmless to Elite many times.

Civilisation (in its various versions) has also consumed me over the years. I still play Civ 3 now - in fact I just bought the Mac version for my new PowerBook.

And most recently World of Warcraft is shaping up to be a real life sucker. I am playing that a lot.

Shenmueeee II, I'm playing through at the moment and i keep getting that 'just one more day syndrome'.
I'm in the process of trying to chat up Fangmei at the moment as well as completing my gocha gocha and lighter collection, so I'm spending my days gambling and stacking moldey old books.

For me.......Virtua Tennis and Virtua Tennis 2 still captivate me and I play those in the morning before work. Everybody's Golf 1 & 2 are feverishly addictive especially unlocking all the characters. The same goes for Mario Golf. Pro Evolution Soccer has it's social life-eating Master League mode, Devil Crash and Psycho Pinball because I love pinball, and just about any decent Capcom, SNK or Sammy beat 'em up with unlockables. Oh - and Yoshi's Island. Still haven't beaten all the levels 100% - keep doing it bit by bit.

Currently, I can't get enough of picross. Mario no Super Picross (SFC) and Logic Pro (arcade), mostly. Addictive as hell!

I had to stop bring it into work cos I was blatantly playing it in front of my boss with out even thinking anything of it. ITS DANGEROUS!!!!

Lumines & Advance Wars for me too - Like crack. I just don't have enough time to squeeze in as many games of lumines as I'd like (I hate using the sleep function - it's tricky being able to instantly get back into the groove after a break !)

When I was at Uni, Civilization (and, later, Civ 2) completely took over my life for quite a long time. It's one of those games that offers no good point to stop playing. You just keep on kidding yourself that each turn will be your last, and before you know it you've been playing until 4am.

As for console games, it's hard to think of anything that hooked me as much as Phantasy Star Online. While I was playing it, I pretty much lived on Ragol except for when I was sleeping or working. Strange how something that was, ultimately, quite a small, limited game compared to other online RPGs could be so addictive and compelling.

Lol, I echoe the Advance Wars cry. I brought mine in over the so called quiet period round about Christmas and actually played it with no work being done for about a week absolute gem of a game and totally life consuming. I can go without it for weeks but when I turn it on for a bit I proceed to lose hours even days to its charm.

The DS version is gonna make a lot of things in my life irrelevant... bye bye girlfriend

No games have had me by the balls as much as Final Fantasy 7 and Ocarina of Time, they are the all-time top life-consuming games i have played. I absolutely could not stop.
Nothing outside of Midgar or Hyrule could distract me while i was working my way through them. Nearly failed my first year of Uni because of Squaresoft...

Before them it was Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island, kept playing them until every last level was unlocked.

After FF7 and OoT it would have to be Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue and KOTOR, although Metroid Prime and the Windwaker were both very compelling too.

                              World Of Warcraft (PC).

I let it pass me by when it was first released over here in February 2005 (never really liked the look of older Warcraft games) and boy what a mistake that was!

                              This is a phenomenal game!

The size and variation of the game world is awe inspiring...and no loading times at all whilst travelling around each continent!

No other game has engrossed me as much since FFVII all those years ago. I can't stop playing!

Only downer is you really need a fast-ish broadband connection and a half decent PC to play it as opposed to just a console. Oh and you have the monthly ?8 charge due to it being a MMORPG.

If you have never played a MMORPG before, or have passed this by because it carries the Warcraft brand name...then you should go and investigate right now as I believe you will be truly gobsmacked when you see what this game has to offer!
