    First Person Shooters

This genre seems to be very heavily invested in by developers with an almost never ending supply of new titles being anounced each month. Personally im not a fan of the genre at all as to me it epitomises alot of aspects that I think are holding videogames back at present.

A quick list I've knocked together of games that are in development (not in any way a complete list).

    Battlefield 2
    Bioshock
    Black
    Boiling Point
    Call of Duty 2
    Coded Arms
    Condemned
    Dark Sector
    Darkwatch
    Far Cry Instincts
    Far Cry 2
    F.E.A.R
    Fifth Phantom Saga
    From Russia with Love
    Geist
    Gears of War
    Golden Eye Rogue Agent DS
    Half Life 2 XB
    Halo 3
    Hellgate: London
    Killer 7
    Killing Day
    Killzone 2
    Metroid Prime: Hunters
    Perfect Dark Zero
    Prey
    Quake 4
    RCTW 2
    Roll Call
    Serious Sam 2
    S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
    Timeshift
    Unreal Tournament 2007

Is it possible that so many titles will hit the market that the genre becomes oversaturated and interest would re-establish in other genres and new ideas as a result?

I hope so, I personally hate the genre, although I found Duke Nukem and Quake 2 very enjoyable. I just think it hit its limit....

Its a sad world when games of the genious quality like Giftpia wont get released in the western world because people are to busy playing fifa 20xx and some cloned fps shooter....

Nah, i think there is nothing better than shooting the **** out of people (especially on XBox Live). I love FPS titles and they just keep getting better and better. The more the merrier.

I love being able to come in from a hard days work, flick on the xbox live and destress with some FPS killin! The Live aspect makes it much more fun, playing with friends and people anywhere in the world, having the banter and jokes flowing or being able to shout orders and work as a unit is cool.

Fingers crossed. I hope the genre dies.

Not a fan either. The last (and probably only) one I really enjoyed was GoldenEye.

I'm with tigger. FPS games are the perfect way to wind down after work. Playing with friends over Live is multiplayer gaming at its best.

I find it hard to see how anyone who likes playing multiplayer games (there are some who are SP only) could not enjoy a nice FPS once in a while. They reward skill and encourage loads of tactics. Lovely.

The genre is viewed exclusivly through the first person. You have a problem with the genre because...

Im not being funny, but you're targeting the FPS as it "...epitomises a lot of aspects that I think are holding videogames back..."

                        Why?

Please stop baiting each other. The first post is almost trolling in that it doesn't explain why you don't like FPS games and when I read it, I thought "What's the betting this thread goes nowhere fast". It will be locked unless there's a dramatic improvement in content soon.

hopefully, cause all those games are getting in the way of all the totally unique and genre-defining Real Time Strategy, Turn Based Strategy, Racing, Fighting and Platforming games that are coming out

                            [/sarcasm]

Since it seems people would rather post cliche replies and question whether something is inciteful instead of contributing an opinion on the state of genre overpopulation this topic might as well had close.

I've learnt my lesson and won't post any topics here in the future as its simply not worth it if the members are unable to look beyond the obvious.

                              Thanks, Bye
