the answers you've got are a function of the question you've asked...

i don't like FPS games. but there are loads of them coming! do you think we'll all get bored of them, so some more games i'd like to play will come along?

that's only going to provoke one of two reactions:

    a) yes, i don't like FPS games either. let's see some more games i'd like to play too!
    b) no, i love FPS games, shut up!

you've made an unsubstantiated personal statement which invites people to either agree or disagree with you; there's just no room to debate it.

don't be discouraged - just think of a question that has more than 2 possible answers!

I think the FPS genre simply lies in if you?re a western gamer or a ntsc-j gamer.

If your a western gamer then you'll love it, if not then the chances are your going to hate it.

I personally don?t get the fascination with the genre personally. As I said Halo to me doesn't play any different to Wolfenstein 3D which I had on the SNES or Duke Nukem 3D/Quake 2 on my PC .

      1.) Go into a corridor
2.) Get welcome by a room full of bad guys
3.) Kill all the bad guys

Loop goes around, just seems to be the same game structure. Just swap the corridor with maybe some sort of spaceship/outside terrain.

I own Halo I personally don?t see what all the fuss is about it plays almost the same as Duke Nukem 3D and lacks the brilliant humor. Just seems that the genre has reached its peak, and the only way to make it innovative again is to maybe merge it with the Adventure genre. But then that goes back to why would you want to play such dull games? That need an injection of another genre to make it less tedious.

Another thing I just can't comprehend what?s the obsession, with US and UK gamers with these World War FPS titles. They all look and play the same and you already know the ending what?s the point?

      My 2 cents.

Kron, the same would have happened whatever forum you post on. Stop being so dramatic and just explain yourself a bit so that the discussion is more focused and doesn't just meander off into nowhere.

So which one are good on XBOX apart from Halo 1/2 or Riddick (I don't want Tom Clancy's serious yawn miltary games)

Not a huge fan of the genre myself, though Doom 3 has got me interested again somewhat, and I'm playing through the Serious Sam games again. I loved the original Doom back in the day, and games like Duke Nukem, Dark Forces, Blood, Rise of the Triad, Heretic and Hexen were great fun to play. Even the original Wolfenstein had me enthralled as well. Despite most of the games playing pretty much the same, each one had a different feel to it. Whether it was the seedy humour in Duke Nukem, the eerie vibe in Blood and Doom or the absurdity of fighting Hitler in a mechanical exoskeleton in Wolfenstein. Each one had something to offer.
Nowadays I look at the Splinter Cells and the Halos and all those WW2 games and I can't see the difference between them. Not to mention many of them focus mainly on realism. I prefer battling though surreal landscapes, bizarre alien worlds or dark stygian depths than the trenches, the Gulf or whatever.
The only fps games I've enjoyed in recent years were Jedi Knight 2, Alien vs. Predator 2 and Serious Sam. They offered a bit more than the usual 'running through corridors with a gun' thing.
I would've mentioned the Metroid games as well, but I don't consider them fps games in the same vein as those listed above. They seem more like traditional Metoid games with some fps trimmings to me. More exploration than a furious frag fest.
I don't think the genre's holding anything back, but I think it needs some of that spark whick made it so enjoyable in the first place. At least, that's how I see it.
