Why not standard fps controls? its a fps view. I just couldnt get to grips with it.
    I tried but AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
The fact it had no form of strafe alone made me quit the game, so I agree. You should really control those emotions, though.

The Outrun 2 review on this site is probably the worst piece of reviewing NTSC-UK has ever produced. And even that statement has little to do with the score it was given.

Threads such as this always remind us how stupid our fellow being can be, and for that, we should applaud it. No-one can take away what it is you like or dislike about a game, especially not with words on an internet games forum. You see, kids, we can't all agree on everything, some people like this, some like that, but in the end you've just got to understand and know what it is you like and why, and be content in your knowledge and love for that thing.

ICO, Metroid Prime and even Halo have received honourable mentions this week, so what does this all mean? Bollocks, of course, so stop whining.

Anyway. I think Super Smash Bros. (N64, not the ****e Gamecube sequel) got a 5/10 in Edge, horribly exposing the reviewers obvious lack of time spent playing with 3 other friends, as opposed to on his own. Deserved and 8 or 9 for the amount of depth and playability this game has.

This review in particular was out of synch with the general excellence of the magazines reviewing throughout the 90's and early 00's.

        Ohh, forgot to mention.

Chronicles of Riddick. Praise everywhere. Terrible game.

Has anyone pointed out to you that there's also a 180 feature? Pull back and tap B to turn round and face the other way instantly? (Just in case like).

          I'm here to help.

In my opinion, I thought that it is the best game on Xbox behind Halo and Panzer Dragoon Orta. It is the best movie 'tie-in' since GoldenEye and had a great atmosphere. It is a short game, but I never had so much fun and played with various styles of gameplay rolled in one.

            Just stating my feelings.

            The film however was terrible!

Underrated IMO, based on certain other reviews that get a higher rating.

Actually if you'd bothered to play the game for more than five minutes you would have seen that there IS strafing in the game. You hold down the L trigger and use the left analogue stick to strafe left or right.

Besides which, Metroid Prime was never a FPS - it was a platformer in first-person view.

i still believe reviews or at least peoples opinions are important. Of course now days magazine reviews are a waste of time (why buy a mag with perhaps one or two opinions on a game when you can go online and get hundreds) though years ago before i had internet access they were all i had to rely on but the fact is i will rarely buy a game without checking to see what people think of it.However sometimes i believe even some of the big sites get it wrong take a look at jade empire review on ign 9.9 out of 10 now i believe its a fairly good game but nowhere near the game they make it out to be the fairly average combat and the fact i completed it in under 12hrs (with quite a few subquests done) not the 22hrs+ as said by ign

Famitsu springs to mind here, different reviewers who like different genres share there opinions on the game. But is this more accurate?

A game i feel was slated that should not have been is Ridge racer V it does nothing new but is this enough to warrant a low score? Maybe No reiko there is the reason hence why Ai Fukami did not appear in Ridge RacersThen again a mate last nite slated RRV as well, i disagree. I prefer Ridge Racer games in genral without nitros as well. I do not own Ridge Racers on the PSP but have played it and feel these make it not Ridge Racer spose it changes the game tho. Maybe my view of the Nitros will change when i play it more.

Damn skippy - anyone who hates Metroid Prime 1 or 2 because 'it doesn't play like a proper FPS' is a bellend. Idiots.

Speech and a half, I do hate it when people say stuff like that.

I really liked chronicles of riddick, but i agree gaming tastes vary .

Metroid a platformer?...... in fps view....where u shoot things..... hmmmm, i would argue the game hinges more on your ability to use weapons in the first person view than relying on your "platform" games ability. Jump, run, duck.

Eg platfomers are normally about timing loads of jumps moving blocks, dissapearing blocks, jumping on the heads of enemies etc etc. In a quite contained environment. Going from A to B.

I know it was marketed as a platformer in the first person view but i see it as a fps because of all the damm first person shooting u do.

I think im angry cause it is obviously a good game. But there are some who say the controls are excellent and some like me who "cant" get to grips.

I disagree. Play Super Metroid, then play Metroid Prime. Viewpoint aside, they're exactly the same in terms of what you have to do - negotiate platforms, find hidden items, use the Morph Ball to get through small passages, kill plenty of enemies (and there ARE plenty of enemies in any Metroid game). The only real difference is how MP handles the shooting - because of the freedom of movement that the enemies have, it allows you to track their movements by locking on, rather than having it completely free-form like a 'proper' FPS. Why do you get this luxurious addition? Because, as with all Metroid games, shooting things isn't the primary part of the game. Plus, it allows Retro to be more creative with the boss design.

Therefore - it's Metroid, which is ultimately a platform adventure. But from a first-person viewpoint. The defence rests.

And Riddick was great... but it was just too damn short.
