That Killer 7 review has convinced me to take the plunge. I was concerned by the split opinion that it has received but I've thought 'what the hell'.

      Namco X Capcom, PS2 - 7

      Is this the Jap version?

What retro delights await us this month?

        Yes.

GamesTM along with Edge, are the only publications I've seen that have given Killer 7 a chance.

Gamespot's review was also encouraging. Gamerankings seems to reveal a lot of polarized viewpoints, though many of the criticisms seem to be oddly missing the point of the title. Criticising Killer 7 for failing to adher to free-form control or a typical third-person brief is like criticising The Secret of Monkey Island or Myst for failing to do the same thing.

The minimalist scheme and restricted forms of control are due to the genre it mainly echoes. Do people criticise Panzer Dragoon Orta for failing to offer freeform control or Viewtiful Joe for not offering greater camera control and the ability to explore all the areas you come across?

          No.

Predictably, Killer 7 looks as though it's being largely misinterpreted among its many critics.

It's like criticising a text adventure for being a text adventure.

I suppose in defense of the critics, you could argue that the game's genre hoping is its undoing, but the fact is, it's gameplay limitations seem to be due to the main format it follows, and where it chooses to go. I could understand many of the vocal criticisms of the title if they were aimed in context of these limitations, but they're aren't... they seemed to be aimed at what the title was never meant to be.

In a long-winded way, kudos to both Edge and GamesTM for not falling into the trap many publications and websites have towards the title and for viewing it on its own bizarre and unique merits.

Oh, and did the PDS feature make it in this issue?

            Looking forward to it.

The great gaming moment in Resident Evil must be on the first level when you first encounter the zombie whilst they are snacking on a poor and unfortunate victim?

Cool, I'll be picking this one up for the PDS coverage. That game is the nuts.

Surprised at the 6 for Bomberman. Multiplayer wise it's a good addition to the series, based on a couple of hours probably my 3rd fave play behind Saturn Bomberman and the Mac Daddy that is the PCE version(s)

Nah, it's when you encounter the lickers for the first time.
