Last night I sat through 20 or so videos of the various games available on or soon after the 360 launch. The videos were high quality, hi-def ones I downloaded from the Microsoft website, I had a lot of anticipation before watching them through but after watching them I felt somewhat let down by what I had seen.

One of the main reasons I was thinking of a 360 at launch was Dead Rising, Id seen a couple of small videos and screenshots and it looked great. In-game however it looked really quite awful. Of course, it might have the greatest gameplay ever but visually it was like looking at a early PS2 game, and not a patch on RE4.

So you?re comparing Capcom very 1st 360 game running on an Alpha kit. To a game in production for over 4 years Capcom?s 6 or 7 title on the machine (getting used to the Hardware) and running on a compete console.

See my point above. If its an Alpha build as developers are leading us to beleive, why bother showing footage if its not a true representation of the final product? Is that supposed to excite people that already own lesser-powered consoles with aesthetically far better looking games of similar ilk on them already? Prelaunch is supposed to be a time to excite and entice people, in my humble opinion its done nothing of the sort. At time of launch it may well be a different story, but this thread is about the here and now isnt it.

But now they have the final hardware games will run much better. There wont be any massive graphical changes but most vids ive seen sufered from fps problems Gears of War and Condemned in particular. However with final hardware this will change and the games will be much better.

Personnally games like Saints Row, Condemned, Gears of War, PRG3 and perfect dark 0 have really got me hyped and i cant wait for them. Esspecially Saints Row which is GTA with the havok engine for awesome physics and with online multiplayer.

What you like M$ to show off bullsh8t FMV like the Killzone II demo's.
There's no way the game will look that come release day.
Having Capcom on the 360 is big news to M$ so they?ll like to talk about it, and the vids gives up little glimpse as to what to expect.

People were saying the same about the old X-Box. Only DOA 4 or JSRF look any good. HALO looks cr8p it and PGR are only running 15 fps ect.
              Diff story come launch day.

Console launches rarely contain anything thats much different from the current gen, so in terms of am i excited about the 360 the answer has to be no. But its the same answer about the PS3 and Rev as well. The PS2 took a while for anything decent to materialise i expect the next gen to do the same.

                Saying that i have preordered a 360

did you do any different for the ps2 and the dreamcast TA?

I was excited as a kid at christmas when I preordered a few weeks back. Lately all the news has been about this and that not being ready for launch so its died down a bit.

Yeah the tech demo's were real time .
And before anyone start I now SEGA showed off fake demo's in the Saturn days (VF/Daytona)

The Xbox was a similar story at launch, aside of that one title things were slow, as we all know now the Xbox has become a great console and the homebrew scene especially made it essential.
I thought Xbox had the strongest launch lineups of all last-gen consoles :

PS2 - Ridge5 (same game nicer graphics) & Tekken Tag (same game nicer gfx)
DC - VF3TB only title of note (Pen Pen etc I think there were 4 at launch?)
GC - Luigi Mansion & Waverace
XBOX - DOA3, Halo, PGR, Oddworld

                      IIRC.

                      thanks John

                        JSRF wasn't a launch title ...

Launch was, Oddworld Munches Oddysee, Project Gotham Racing, Halo, Dead or Alive 3, Amped (iirc ) ... still a particularly strong line-up, Halo and PGR being exceptionally good, Amped and DOA3 being good-ish, and Oddworld being so-so

It took developers a long time to master this gen of consoles, and it will take even longer with the likes of 360. I'm not at all surprised that the first wave of games is so uninspiring, and frankly I wouldn't expect to see the really impressive stuff for a good 2 years.

And this will only get worse as we move onto the generation beyond 360 - by which point 360 will really be pushing out some seriously impressive visuals, and 360 2 will seriously be into the realm of diminishing returns where even large amount of extra power seem to make little difference to the visuals.

Maybe what we need is a Revolution in gameplay instead.

I cant belive so many people dont like the look of the up coming games like, Condemned, gears of war and saints row. I mean ok they might not be the most original of games but how many Xbox and PS2 games are that innovative and original.

would the market sustain a Revolution in gameplay though? it's more than apparent to anyone that the mainstream is what determines a consoles success or failure, and the mainstream want better looking graphics from each successive generation, picking the nicer looking games over the better gameplay time and time again .....

the 'dedicated' gamers will lap up anything which increases/improves gameplay, but those dedicated are in the minority

Its not the console which puts me off buying it, its the price of the games. If ?40 is the entry level priced game, would halo 3 for example be priced the same or would that go up to something like ?55-?60 simply because of its acclaim?

I have the same problem with buying a psp, sony are still acting like ***** when it comes to the psp - almost forcing you to buy the most expensive memory chip, refusing to apologise for dead pixels, stating that some of the X buttons although clearly broken were actually intended like that and the best part is, your psp is apparently not covered if you use it outside. What a crock of BS.
