I might get rid of a wad of gqames and keep a select few and when i say few i mean it. That way when i feel like playing ill have to play those games and be forced to explore every aspect of the game. it seems much more rewarding i think hence the appeal of a few arcade titles

Me too. I've sold games in the past only to want them back! Recently sold some of my Gamecube stuff, only to want it back a few weeks later. Never again.

Saying that the only games i'm selling just now is a JPN Best version of ICO because recently i got the original first print through Japan Auctions (in mint condition too ) and an asian version of Soul Calibur 2 as i already have the Gamecube version.

I'm not parting with anything else again, **** that. Your collection will come in handy when your retired aged 65+ and have **** all else to do, go back and play all those classics you've collected for years before you bite the Big One.

I haven't any games playing equipment at the moment having sold everything a little while back, but I have been buying plenty of hip hop records in the meantime instead of games, and it feels good to be getting a decent selection of vinyl, unlike the feelings I encountered when trying to collect rareish videogames, (which felt like collecting for collectings sake)
And one of my kindly friends is donating his 60hz Genesis and decent selection of games to play on it, so I can revisit my earlier playing days.
I do plan to buy a 360 in dec, hopefully this will be worth purchasing.

Only going for the stuff I want to play rather than what the adverts and hype tell me to buy. This includes not buying any of the console on launch but waiting and evaluating them first.
This is my logic as well. I have some older games that I haven't played in ages, and even some newer ones that haven't got much play time, or that I've finished but loved, and I know i'll regret selling them. Besides, the amount of cash you get for a standard game you don't want is pretty low, unless it's some classic, that as a collector I would want to keep regardless. I've hardly played Dragon Force, for example, but I'm not about to sell it either.

Ditto mate, bought it for Kameo, Panzer Dragoon Orta and Ninja Gaiden for myself and my little brother wanted a few realistic racing titles which couldn't be forefilled by my Gamecube.

Kameo never came out, Ninja Gaiden wasn't a flop but it certainly didn't fill out the promise of the ?ber gameplay and Panzer Dragoon Orta I loved.

Its sitting there growing shelf, only being used for to play Pes which I couldn't of bought a PS2 for or just kept my WE on the GC

ive just got rid of a lot of retro stuff my mega cd, jaguar 32x and strangley my xbox collection have all gone now, the thing about the xbox was i hadn't got anything for it for quite a while now, and a lot of the bigger releases on the horizon are just old pc stuff, half-life 2 and far cry ive played to death, and live was just getting more and more tiresome the droppers and the foul mouthed little ****s really do bring the service down.

These days, I'm getting mainly psp, ds and ps2 stuff and the odd gamecube game, i get my on-line fix on battlefield 2 and joint ops, and the odd bit of counter strike source.

It's strange how i can part with some stuff and not others though, my NeoGeo pocket collection i could never get rid of as the console was bought as a surprise for me by my gf, my saturn and my ps1 collection hold a lot of good times for me, to as i had a lot more time to play stuff when these were the first out. and the same go's for my current ps2 collection ive had the console a long time now and ive played it to death and its still going strong.

one thing i have lernt though is a nice tidy collection of stuff makes you feel a lot better than a massive sprawling collection of stuff you never play or have never played.

                    Yes

I think every serious gamer goes through this.
I just sold all my Megadrive and my SNES stuff. Took me about a year to get round to it but I can honestly say I have not missed it much (apart from Sensi Soccer on the MD).
Next up is the Saturn and PS1 but I am really struggling parting with all the great games I own for each system.

I try and treat games like clothes and have a clear out every couple of years based upon ' have not worn that for the last year - off to charity it goes'. I try to apply the same premise to gaming (apart from selling stuff rather than giving it away).

I remember getting rid of all my gaming stuff after my 2nd year at Uni, had a Snes which I played occasionally. It seemed odd having no games at all to play for a year or so till I got a PS1. But I had an active social life and so didnt miss it all that much.

I think owning lots of games removes the thrill of getting something new to play (for me at least). In the last months I have maybe played on my GC/Xbox/PS1/ Saturn for 8 hours or so, and spend more time watching movies/ on the net than gaming.

I am really considering selling it all and not playing until the 360 arrives to see if the lack of gaming is what I need rather than drip feeding things I am not that excited about.

So in answer to your initial post - yes.

I've thought of getting shut of some of my Amiga games, though I've very few I'd want to get rid of. I've a few psx games I could probably do without, maybe a couple of ps2 games.
Trouble is, I'm such a lazy bastard I couldn't be arsed to trawl through those old games and go to the trouble of actually selling/giving them away. As for selling any dvds and the like, I'd never do that - I might grow bored of a game, but a movie I can always come back to. Unless it's **** to begin with, that is.

Selling the stuff brings a tear to my eye, but it is true anything you get rid of, can be brought back, after all nothing is hard to find at the right price. Things were mass produced. Fact of the matter is, the emulation scene has helped peeps re-introduce themselves to games they had in the past. With the xbox 360s promise of downloading back catalogue, why not get rid of the clutter? Games are become more like films in that they are regurgachated (typo?) time and time again. Im sure any game can played in the future. Nothing will be lost, unless your talking about physical consoles. In which case thats a different matter.

I recently got rid of all my Jap Dreamcast stuff. I don't have a problem with it, as I know I can never be bothered turning my DC on anymore.

Getting rid of my PAL Saturn would be a hassle. The prices are so low, its more trouble putting it all on eBay and making trips to the post office, than its worth.

What does pain me is thinking 'I paid ?300 for this console and it now worth under ?20'.

Not got a huge collection or anything but need to bin some stuff for the move in with my gfriend next weekend.

Gonna give my SNES to the bin men - really hard for me to do (kept it around for Mario Kart) but banking on the Revolution hooking me up with the back catalogue goodness.

I have a stack of Edge Magazines which I should chuck out too, those things weigh a tonne >_< Or maybe I should do a free send out, one issue a day to anybody who wants? Hmmm...abuse the work mailroom

Hey, if your going to do that send some of those copies of edge my way

I've already had a huge clearout this year, in had about 150 games when this year started and now i've only got 48 across 3 formats. I just decided to get rid of the consoles and games that i didn't play often or weren't up to scratch. Sold my neo, and although i miss mark of the wolves at least my wallet is more heavy than before. With it out went the pal saturn, snes, DC, and MD found it too frustrating looking for pal games especially when the case and art work is oh so ugly, decent condition pal games are also a bugger to find. So i got a jap saturn lately with about a dozen games and currently have plans to buy a jap DC and i'm also toying with the idea of getting an arcade cab for MVS games. One thing i know for certain is that my rebuilding of my videogame collection will be a much more thought out process where only quality games shall make the grade.
