GTA Liberty Stories - Firmware Chat

EDIT DavidHolliss: Started separate thread for firmware chat to keep it out of the First Play thread.

Seems this game has some mad new protection that makes the game not work on machines below 2.00, even with version changers.

I'm not going to be buying this game until the warez guys release a crack so I can run my legally purchased copy from memory stick. Nice Sony

Isn't this just going to keep happening with new releases? I can't see Sony ever conceding easily to the emu-brigade unfortunately

I got a little bit bored with GTA3 on the PS2 so skipped Vice City & San Andreas; is there anything in this likely to stop me from having the same reaction? Or will my copy be heading to the trading forum?

I can see myself upgrading firmware so that I can run this. It's not like I even bother with homebrew these days anyway. You can hardly attack Sony for taking these measures. It was never said that you would be able to run games from memory stick and they're quite right to crack down on anything associated with piracy.

Maybe, I'd seriously rather buy a second machine if I was that desperate, as there's no way in hell I'm ruining a perfectly good exploitable machine.

        Each to their own though.

.....And most of those 'ways' have been confirmed unsuccessful.

:S So is it 2.01 required or 2.0? Mine's on order from CD-Wow so god knows when I'll receive it.

I wonder what the deal with the 2.01 vs 2.00 fiasco is then? If it has 2.01 on the disc but still runs from using 2.00 then I'll definitely not blink an eyelid about upgraging as I can downgrade easily later again but if it only needs 2.01 then I think I'm going to have to wait a bit until the modders sort this out as I dont want to be without all my homebrewness.

Sitting in work today playing Super Mario World was just too good to give up!

I read somewhere that you can only downgrade a certain number of times, around 2000 iirc, before the PSP gets bricked, although i dont know if this has been verified.

Just watched the IGN video review of LCS, and getting even more excited. Only a week left!!

Also, has there been news on the compatibility of US and UK versions for multiplayer?

I dont think I'll ever do it 2000 times so I'm safe there!

Forgot I had all those IGN vids I downloaded, just watched them there! Nice! So excited about this! The prospect of multiplayer really excites me too! Like amazing thing to have pulled off so well.

Hope some kind of crack is done so I can enjoy this fully as well as keeping all my other homebrew stuff. I wanna run this game at 333Mhz too!!!

I learnt from the last time not to be so hasty with the upgrading. Gonna wait for some solution to appear.

It's flash memory, most normal kinds of flash memory wear out if the same area is written to that many times

It was on the (seemingly) reputable www.psp-vault.com, but in a forum thread, however the mod is pretty strict on such stuff. I did say it was a rumour. I'll try to dig up the direct link/quote.

I think i'll upgrade to 2.0 myself, and then downgrade once i've finished it, but its not ideal by any means. I wont be using the firmware on the GTA UMD either, just in case Sony is trying to pull a shifty on us.

EDIT: hmmm cant find the reference, maybe it was somewhere more dodgy, as i dont recall quite where i read it. Sorry if its scare-mongering chaps, but thought it worthy of passing on just in case. It's not like finding a safe 2.0 is hard afterall.

Upgrade to 2.0 from a verified source on the net.

                              Load GTA.

If that doesn't work, feck em.

At least then you can be sure of downgrading.
