Yes, exactly. Imagine if people made up their own minds and didn't for some weird reason give great importance to the *opinion* of some magazine hack.

Would be the end of the world!

Just done a quick scan through the issue on my lunch break although heaven knows when I?ll actually read it. My backlog of GamesTM is rivalled only by that of my backlog of games to play through. Think the most recent issue I read was September 2003.

Anyway, what struck me the most was how unappealing the games in the review section appeared. Not a fault of the magazine obviously, they can only review what?s out there but of all the games reviewed only 2 appealed to me as games I?d consider buying. Some depressingly low scores on some games too.

Did like the back page as well. Looking at that, you give the impression that Frag Dolls are a cynically created marketing tool.

I preferred the 'dogs' in the previous issue

        Sorry, I couldn't resist...

My copy arrived this morning, only 4 days after it appeared in the shops.

Cool, I may just have to have a leaf through it in Smiths then!

It's not going to be in the new retrogamer is it? Cos in that case you'll get my money.

Boo to the 7 for Phoenix Wright! And yes, I have read the whole review.

Is there some sort of Amiga complex going on here with the DS? Almost every GamesTM and Edge scores thread has people complaining about the scores that the DS games get. Now there are complaints for some other scores too, but not quite in the same league. Do a search on 'Gamestm scores' and 'edge scores' and have a look for yourself.

Are games magazines being deliberately harsh towards the DS or do people feel the need to be defensive about it for some reason? What's up?

Where did you find Paul Howarth? I used to know him, years ago.

                        We're all DS fanboys silly!

I don't see the DS scores being overly harsh... anything over 5 is a good score, when you think about it. Just because they're not clocking up continual 9s - after all, is Phoenix Wright really worth more than a 7, considering it's incredibly linear (in that there's only one right answer every time) and features incredibly long segments where you can't do anything? It's great fun, but... well, not more than a 7. Not for us, anyway. But then, as always, it's just an opinion.

*Plus it's just a remake of the original Phoenix Wright game, with an extra case stuck on the end... but we won't go into that, eh?

                            True true.

Though nothing will disuade me from believing in the general apathy Games have/had continually shown Nintendo and more specifically the DS.

Can't speak for the mag recently as I stopped getting it yonks ago. Stopped buying it when I felt all it had to say regarding the DS was the continual mantra of, 'it's a bit gimicky'...

Then maybe you should have a quick look - as far as I know, we haven't said anything like that for ages. And as for apathy towards Nintendo? Well, you clearly don't know us at all.

As 99.99% people in the West won't have played it before, I don't really see that as a problem. Sure it may be 4 years old, but it's gonna be "new" and "fresh" to almost everyone over this side of the world.

Age doesn't really come into for me when reviewing games... if it's still good, then it still gets a good score. And to me PW is one of the best games I've played this year.
