Original Xbox Games Playable on Xbox 360

Slightly OT so I apologise but SCEI have also announced an end to 20GB/60GB PS3 production in Japan (they had already ceased in US and Europe) meaning an effective end to hardware backwards compatibility in the PS3.

I've made no secret of my love of backwards compatibility in the past (having a single box under the TV capable of playing 3 generations of software is so much more convenient than having to have a PS1, PS2 and PS3 setup) so these 2 news stories sadden me but I guess it really just isn't feasible any more, and too much effort/cost for limited gains.

I'm actually tempted to nab a 60GB JPN unit whilst I can though simply to be able to playback my my JPN PS2 games upscaled.

There's a new update out! Lets hope we get something decent this time (Otigi, Gun Valkarie or Capcom classics) after all the crappy sports titles were added in November. Does anyone have a list of what's added this time?

PS1 games work fine just not PS2 unfortunately

I play just as many old games as new ones, currently I've played Ninja Gaiden, StreetFighter III and Outrun 2. It's a used feature and I did get an update today.

I've searched the thread and can't find any past reference but I've just been on Gamefaqs and there is a guy reporting that the original XBox version (not Trilogy or Classic) of GTA: San Andreas does not run on the XB360 even after the last update,

It could well be the guy is in the US using a NTSC XB360 and the NTSC Xbox version of the game but I thought that might still be of interest here.

My orignial PAL San Andreas works fine on the 360, there were problems with the trilogy version. Maybe the post hot Coffee mod version of the game has problems running.

Just been playing the first Lego Star Wars with my nephew who loves it. It runs well on the 360 but only runs in 4:3 through component. Did the game never have a 16:9 mode? I seem to remember it filling the screen on my X-box through my old 32" Hitachi CRT.

I was playing Shenmue II the other day on my 360 and it was displaying in 4:3 (i'm using HDMI) is there any way to make it full screen?

TBH the backwards compatibility is dreadful. Most of the stuff looks worse or crashes. In the end i just got an original xbox.

Thanks to that, i played through and finished the wonderful Stranger's Wrath today. Which probably ranks in the top 3 best xbox games. What makes things worse, is that its not even compatible with the 360.

Backwards compatibility for the 360 is probably dropped altogether now.
