    360 (whats the point? discuss.)

Now that the 360 is so close to launch and the reviews for its main games have now started appearing (at least on the net anyway) i can safeley say that this is pretty much the most pointless console launch i can remember.

Every console launch i can remember had something unique that hadn't happened before or they at least provided one game that was worth your time and effort buying the console for.
But with the 360 i really can't see any reason at all to fork out ?280 of my hard earned cash just to play one original franchise (kameo) one slight graphical update of gotham and a port of call of duty2.
As the future releases of 360? i cant see anything comming out that looks even remoteley interesting, Gears of Bore? i say no thanks to kill switch in space.
Halo 3?, will most probable turn out the same as 2, a big rushed dissapointment.

ive got nothing against the console itself, from what ive seen the console seems very well designed with every feature that could of been thrown at it. But without (THAT) game its just an expensive paperweight.

i think ill look at the revolution as my next (Next gen) console and hopefully it will provide something more substantial than high def gotham 2.

some people would say the High Definition for every game is the big selling point. Tho personally I ain't seein too much reason for me to want one at the moment, I don't think anyone can really argue that extra power in the long run for whatever it could be used for is anything but a good thing (bar development costs etc :P)

i can see what you mean, i'm unsure about it aswell as the original xbox didn't really do anything to impress me. its just the odd game that impresses but i dont want to spend just for one game though. i think with some people its cause its something new and they have to have it. i've turned into a collector and its that what makes me want it more and to say i've got one which is proably selfish

The fact that its so geared towards Live! puts me off no end. As if single player doesn't matter anymore.

Normally I struggle to hold out on not pre-ordering a console at launch and generally give in.

With this launch though I really can't be arsed with it. Maybe it's part due to the rather meh launch line up and also the "hype" with regards to actually being able to obtain one.

Maybe it's because I want to see what Sony and Nintendo have to offer early next year.

Whatever, I'm pretty apathetic with regards to the 360 at the moment.

The problem is that we're so used to stunning visuals in the current gen that this is not quite the grabbing point it was like when, say, the Dreamcast appeared.

For me, the idea of playing games in HD is enough, as I believe that while graphics don't make a game, thet go hand in hand with the sound in setting the mood and atmosphere. But HD isn't mainstream enough yet for this to be a real selling point.

Why are we using lightbulbs when we could still have candles?

Theres no one forcing you to get the console, But I feel like the next gen coming may not be to your liking. PS3 is going to be worse in this aspect due the huge amount of sequels, I feel that the revolution will be using the same brands again and again (but perhaps thats abit obivous).

What I'm saying is, wait it out, check next gen out next year when the X360 has actually had a chance to expand its games libary and the ps3 launch (which wont be anything more special than the x360 launch).

I think that as the first next gen console, it is going to offer me much more in terms of new and exciting features that no other console is going to be able to offer me. Just the new and improved integration of Xbox live is enough for me to buy it, (who can argue with the usefullness of free downloadable demos for your console?) . I personally would pay the ?280 just to be able to play my xbox games in full HD. I've also waited over 4 years to play Perfect dark zero and Kameo , which both feature some incredible online features.
I think the launch line up is a very solid one and pisses over anything that previous consoles have offered ( I can't think of one game for the launch of the PS2 that was either 1. Good and 2. Original) I'd rather have 3 or 4 highly rated games than one killer app i.e. the XBOX launch.

I imagine most of the people who aren't interested in it probably haven't experienced the good side of xbox live.

I held out on buying a PS2 till Silent Hill 2 and GTA3 came out, a cube till REmake was released and an Xbox till Knights of the old Republic.

Looking at my Xbox collection I only own ten games in all this time. It's a great machine but if the 360 gets similar genre patterns (fps, sports, racing...) it may be a long time till I can be bothered picking one up. I don't really do gaming online much either...

It's just a personal taste thing though. If I was madly into online shooters and racing games I'd be going mental for it, so I do see the 360's point, it's just heading west whereas mine heads east.

Name one game in the launch line up that is geared towards online only?

I can't see anything like quake 3 arena or Unreal Tournament, I can't see any MMORPGs.

Xbox live isn't just about playing games online, its about the whole best of the internet catered especially for a home console. The way you can message your freinds whilst watching TV or playing a DVD. Its about the way you can browse through the menus built into the xbox and download yourself a small game for a minimal price , or a high definition trailer of a new game or even a game demo for a full HD 5.1 surround sound game!

To be honest Microsft's Xbox and the 360 make me feel ill.
Didn't see anything appealing about the first, don't see anything appealing now.
Plus I find Halo to be highly over-rated fps ****e, so the third wont pull me in.

the problem is that its mostly about xbox live, which i'm not interested i tried it and never played it again. i couldn't care less about online gaming i just dont like it. i prefer single player games, games with a good story than a rubbish online mode playing against some yanks that wont shut up

all consoles have good and bad things that people like or dont. if you dont like it then dont buy it. this thread shouldn't turn into a slagging match against sony fans or xbox etc

The Xbox turned out pretty well, no doubt the 360 will do also. Theres little to tempt me into buying it at this time though, apart from R6 perhaps (which I heard has bad loadtimes). Right now the best gaming platform for me is the PC, though I might not buy a 360 at launch I intend on getting one a little further down the line.

Couldn't be put simpler, I do think that a thread that is essentially a "XBOX 360 iS TEH ****E" its utterly pointless. I might just make a "Shadow of the Collossus is an overated jerky lump of sponge" thread.........
                              which I THINK is true.
