I'll end up getting one at some point so might as well get in on the ground floor. It should be pretty exciting.

I can't see anything like quake 3 arena or Unreal Tournament, I can't see any MMORPGs.
Xbox live isn't just about playing games online, its about the whole best of the internet catered especially for a home console. The way you can message your freinds whilst watching TV or playing a DVD. Its about the way you can browse through the menus built into the xbox and download yourself a small game for a minimal price , or a high definition trailer of a new game or even a game demo for a full HD 5.1 surround sound game!
The whole idea of 'buying' add-ons or locked parts of a game is really putting me off. They did it with the XBox and I think they're going to really push it for the 360.

Dead inside.
What I can't understand is this:
Here we have what is a really powerful beast of a machine thas is going to be capable of some absolutely storming games, and yet we have a situation where people, on a gaming website, are ripping off heads and ****ting down necks before they've even had chance to play even the first release games.
It's a case of something new comes along and "Some of these games look ****e", rather than "Holy ****, this could be amazing, I can't wait to see what happens."
Do you people even like video games? It's bizzare!

I didn't think it was too bad on the xbox, I think that if you liked any of the games that had downloadable content enough , you would pay a small amount for them. It wasn't like they were already in the game already , "locked" as you said, they were separately developed additions that the developer thought people might like to play. Only like 3 games had any DLC that you had to pay for anyway, and it became free if you waited long enough.
I think what they said was that the kind of were going to make things a "pay for" were the live arcade games and the personalisation features. It was mooted a long time ago that EA were going to make the last segment on games for xbox unlockables that you paid for. It never happened

Its the first of a new generation of consoles, lets be excited. If you think its a waste of time, don't buy it, but don't moan about it because I guarantee if it was the PS3 launch in a few weeks, every man, woman and child would be creaming their pants about it. Its only coming out this early as MS have to launch first to try and maximise their potential for getting a head start on Sony.
All the consoles are going to have boundless sequels and dull but lucrative franchise churned out for them, that's just to be accepted because of the way the market is now. But I guarantee that each of the consoles will have a few nuggets of AAA gold that will make us remember why we love to play games so much.

I've nothing against the XBox 360 and in offering something new, although online has been done before its never been done as well before and used by as many people. Just not for me

I do hope your right in that it won't be too bad. In the worst case I can see a developer putting out a game 80% complete then charging for the last two levels etc.

i'm not particularly enamoured by any of the launch titles, but theres no point in cancelling my pre-order....especially if the rumourd shortages are going to be true.
but something great will come along sooner or later, so i might as well have the console waiting when it happens....perhaps i'll be convinced some of the launch titles are worth buying when i actually hear first hand accounts of them.
