But if people want to pay those prices, whose stopping them.

The honest thing to do is put it at a 0.01p starting price, and if JoePublic wants to pay the high price, then good on the seller

          Indeed.

The only thing that bothers me about it personally is the fact that it's essentially another persons preorder they're taking.

But if the seller is getting it from places doing it on a first come first serve basis, then its no-ones preorder getting taken.

Agreed. I bagged 3 PS2's last crimbo and it paid for part of my on-going sex change exploits.

But they're taking a console purely to sell on and have no intention of ever playing it.

That's why many places, especially in Japan, have a one-per-person policy. A good idea, there will be few cases where a person legitimately needs two.

Dunno if Game/GameStation have such a policy, or just don't care.

Aye, if fools want to pay hugely inflated prices then they're the stupid ones. It's the sellers buying up all the stock with the sole intention of making a quick buck on ebay that's not on. Fair enough, it's only a games console but it's still pure greed.

Mods, just out of interest, what is a large mark up price? Is 450-550 just for the console too high? Not planning on selling any, just wanted to know

We'd consider people marking up the units to more than the price of a game profiteering. It's something we disallowed with the PSP, and we won't allow such sales on the NTSC-uk forums. If people want to go pay more, fine, it's just not going to happen here.

Thats capitalism though and if wasn't for it you wouldn't have a console in the first place.

Its the reason i'm buying one (though at this point i've had no confirmation from Amazon). I can't see the fuss, no one really complains about the prices importers have been charging for years.

I'd say if you really wanted one you would have pre-ordered on the day they were anounced. O.k. bit of a pisser if you've ordered from a retailers getting a small percentage.

The people who will buy these on ebay are most likely to be gadget twats who read T3 and believe it like the bible. Those kind of mags are telling everyone its the number 1 thing for christmas. So like the morons they are they'll pay the premium price, i'm happy to service that idiotic market.

                            Two things:

                            1) I might not get one
                            2) I respect the people here and won't sell it on this site.

At the end of the day it could backfire and Ebay could be flooded so I may be left with an unsold Xbox360. That wouldn't be too bad.

its exploiting a shortage of supply, and in the long run it promotes bad feeling between forum members when member A is fleecing members B,C and D.

People want to buy more than one 360 and sell it on for a profit - then do so by all means - just don't do it in our Sales forum, any threads in which such profiteering is taking place will be removed without warning (this thread, and the one in the Sales forum should be warning enough), and anyone who continues to attempt to do this will have their access to the sales forum removed.

This is not a request on our parts, nor is it a matter which is debateable - its something we are going to do whether people like it or not, and it's something we will do for any future console launches.

its a fair policy, no one can really complain about that.
