My diagnosis would be an improperly set TV. I can't believe how high some people have the contrast.........You may have to raise brightness to compensate, but this is likely the cause.
I agree but it depends on the TV in my experience and the connection type your console uses. I find RGB SCART hikes contrast/colour saturation over other connection types. But if you turn the contrast down you lose all shadow detail. Turn brightness up to compensate and secondary problems may occur. My Sony WS Triniton's blacks go pixely (something to do with the Shadow mask?) if the brightness is set 'too' high even though it is tonally correct. In other words you have to have the contrast set higher than ideal just to get a playable picture.

My thumb is still feeling a little numb after playing JSRF last night for a few hours because the XBox pad's buttons are so bloody unresponsive that you have to press them quite hard. I really should buy an S-Controller while I still can.

my finger looks absolutely hellish. better than it was but it now has a thick red wound, and it's quite possible that i have some nerve damage - the fingertip immediately next to it is all numb. i'll have to wait until it is completely healed to find out. crikey!

still doesn't stop me playing games though, like the idiot that i am.
