In think 2005 has been a great year for games, though the 2 titles which totally eclipse the rest for me are Resident Evil 4 and Shadow of the Colossus. Picking a top 5 is more difficult than I anticipated.

Surprised nobody has even mentioned Oddworld: Strangers Wrath...excellent game...nuff said?

Definitely an unsung hero of this year that I picked up for ?9.99 in Game and thoroughly loved it.

Although not to everyones taste I really enjoyed Heroes of the Pacific on the X-Box as well.

I haven't played SotC yet (being the masochist I am, I've asked for it for Christmas and will have to wait until then to play through it) but for me the game of the year has to be Resident Evil 4.

But Resident Evil 4 was released last year, so was Metal Gear Solid 3 and God of War. My top 3. But they all got local releases this year. See the dilema?

Resident Evil 4 and God of War were released this year in Japan/America (January Resident Evil 4 - March God of War). It's only Snake Eater that was released mid-November 2004.
