I've just had my 360 a couple of weeks and I think overall GamerScore a superb idea, though a high overall score can just as readily indicate a surplus of time and/or money as it can gamesplaying ability.
I particularly appreciate the Live leaderboards and Achievements on the Live Arcade retro stuff. For instance, I've been playing Galaga for over 20 years, but until now, other than trying to best myself I've had nothing to play 'against'.
But yes, the balancing of the critera of Achievements is wildly variable. I would imagine that most players could unlock everything on Galaga within a few plays, whereas the Achievements on the famously tough Smash TV are far from easily attainable.

I reckon there shouldn't be points for achievements because your total gamerscore doesn't really mean anything.
However since there are points involved, I think that Dead Rising has got it spot on. 50 achievements worth 20 points each. The hardest achievement in the game in worth the same as the easiest. It makes you look at the individual achievements instead of the points associated.
Overall gamer score is pretty pointless but comparing the achievements for an individual game is excellent.
Also, I much prefer the achievements that take skills to beat rather than time/repetition. There are far too many games that reward you for playing xxx games or hosting xxx matches, anyone can do that with enough time.Last edited by Hulk Davidson; 30-11-2006, 12:23.

Haha, crikey. It is a bit mad innit this gamer score thingy? The missus and I have a little competition going like, my score is bigger than yours kind of thing. However, while she has completed Kameo (and also made me buy expert mode that is "too hard" for her) and got a bunch of other things under her belt (thanks Oblivion), I more than make up for the fact that I've got a few crazy achievements from that shooter in PGR3 (notably dubbed "the firework game" by my daughter) and almost all of my 800 points exclusively from TDU
