Another vote for the no dead pixels camp. In fact see my thread in the PC section!

If you accept dead pixels quite frankly I think your daft.

When the lite is released in the US I'll be getting one, probably from VG+ as long as they still offer to check for dead pixels...

I'm sure all LCD manufacturers could guarantee perfect screens, but the price would have to rise from the low level you've become accustomed to if they're to start trashing half the screens that come off the line.
      That's it exactly. It's a compromise.

Some manufacturers will let you exchange a product until you get a 'perfect' one, but I'm sure most consumers don't bother.

I wander just how much of a compromise it is thougt and how much manufacturers trying to get away with....

For example. I have one of the 24" Dell monitors. Out of the 1920 x 1200 (2,304,000 pixels in total) it has no dead pixels. A PSP has a res of 480x272 (130560 pixels in total). Lets say the Dell is right on the tolerance (i.e. you can make around 2304000 pixels before you get a dead one) then I would expect Sony to be able to produce 17 PSP screens with no faults assuming a similar tolerance.

I'd love someone to look seriously into this as I can't help but feel that those manufacturers with, for example, a 3 dead pixel policy are ripping us off. I mean if you think about it all those screen manufacturer exec's must be laughing with glee - they've persuaded a large number of people that having a fault unit is acceptable.

Anyway. Back to the Lite. I'll wait for the UK release but it really does look sweet.

So where is the best place to order a White and a Navy one at the moment?

The News of the World seem to think August. I've heard that date rumoured elsewhere too. Then again the backlit SP was supposed to be out in the UK before Christmas and I'm pretty sure it's not out.

Re: Dead pixels. They can appear after a few hours use - thus making it almost impossible for a company to check for them

I would say that only happens in 90% of cases though. Generally if a screen has dead pixels it will be present from the start.

90%? Tell me that was a typo...

I think he meant if a screen has dead pixels, they will be present from the off 90% of the time (whereas 10% of the time they will appear later).
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

Sorry for gatecrashing this thread but anyone know when a UK release of the DS Lite is likely to be and at what price?

                            Nothing official as yet.
I'd imagine Sept for Europe :/

I'd reckon its all down to stock levels. If Nintendo can pump out sufficient units then I'd say Europe could 'see the Lite' (chortle! ) around May, the same time as the US. Though even thats just rumour at the moment.

However I think that a May US release is definitely their intention given the release of New Mario Bros around then.

US market + DS Lite + New Mario Bros = mucho money.

I had a dream I played New Mario Bros. It was pretty good. I'd post a first play thread but I'm not sure how accurate my dreams are...

I would be quite surprised, given the launch shortages, if we got the Lite over here in May. Hugely surprised actually. My guess would be early autumn. Of course, like everyone else, I'm just speculating here.
