That could explain the differences if there were fakes flying around.

The one i got from play asia had 2 protectors (x1 red tab x1 white tab) & a screen cleaning cloth.

If fakes are floating about it might explain the rumor of them leving adhesive crap on your screen when you take them off. On mine there is silicone on the bottom layer so its impossible for it to leave adhesive as there is none.

The tacky properties of silicone is what makes it cling to the screen (a bit like vinyl window stickers do)

Has anyone tried Games own protectors? Any good?

You don't need a screen 'protector'! All they do is make the touch screen less responsive.

I got my Lite just after Japanese launch and there isn't a single scratch on either screen. Not one.

The touch screen gets scratched after a while though, It doesnt make the touch screen that less responsive not on mine anyway

Remove the protector and play a game. You'll notice the difference immediately. It's night and day. You've just gotten used to it being dulled down. There is a reason why Nintendo state very explicitely in the DS manual not to use screen protectors.

And as I said, no scratches on mine. On my old DS it had a few very tiny scratches, but that was after a crazy amount of hours of play. My Lite has had plenty of action so far in it's short life to far and has zero scratches - perhaps Nintendo have made it tougher.

I found that my DS Lite scratches just as easy as my fat Jap DS. I'm really NOT heavy handed and i had a couple of minor scratches on the lite after about a weeks use.

Still I would NEVER use a protector.

I never scratched my original and i havent scratched my Lite yet so ive never bothered using any protectors. I dont see how people can manage to get actual scratches on the screen they must be pressing down far to hard.

Actually i though that as well till i managed to scratch my old ds.

My old ds had one of the older grainy touch screens which was great as you hardly had to touch it to play. Even so i used the lightest stylus touch to play & my ds remained scratch free. It lasted like that till nearly a year old.

Even though i used to keep my screen super clean it looks like some dust/dirt got onto the screen while i was playing meteos & i didnt notice, bam tons of tiny scratches. And the worst thing is i can feel them with the stylus.

Now fast forward to my new ds lite. The touch screen is different its the clearer grid version but it has one downside. You have to press further down to get the stylus to register. Now because i used to play with the lightest touch i have difficulty getting the stylus to register.

My ds lite is scratch free & i put protectors on so i can get used to pushing harder without fear of wrecking the screen. Sure it might not get scratches without them but im not risking my lite to test it out.

I have been playing a lot of my old games with the protectors on & i have noticed no problems with it affecting sensitivity of the touchscreen. In fact on ouendan im better as i can do the wheel bits without worrying about the screen.

I removed the protector from my Lite, main game it mucks up is MPH - sometimes you dont jump when you double tap, other times you jump when you brush the screen with the stylus.

So does anyone use protectors on the top screen?

Yeah, I use Hori's on the top screen and touch screen on both my DS and DS Lite.

                            Hello All.

Just got my first ever DS (its a Lite from VG+). I have also purchased some Hori screen guards, I am a bit of a ham-fisted chimp so thought these might be a good idea to protect the touch screen. Reading above, I see a few negatives about screen protectors, should I just use it on the top screen or go the whole hog and fit them to both ?

                            Your thoughts/opinions are appreciated.

I don't use screen protectors, they never seem to work for me the one time I did and got frustrated and peeled it off. it's a bit hit and miss to be honest. Protect the top one but I say face the fact the bottom screen it gonna get dirty a bit. I can't stand it when people moan about the bottom screen being scribbled on, thats the whole point! (not having a stab at anyone here btw)

For ?109.99 Game will be doing a Lite and a selected game. Most are tosh but there are 3 good ones, Sonic Rush, Metroid Prime and Brain Training. Not for for an extra tenner.
