The Lite is extremely pretty and shiny, so I'm much more careful when transporting it. I have a nice looking leather effect slip case from Keys Factory which matches it well. That said, being a Nintendo product I'm sure it's actually pretty tough, and the new touch screen is completely scratch resistant. (unlike the original)

Battery life is better too, and those screens.... As many others have said they are truly stunning. The sticking out GBA cart doesn't bother me much as I have my Micro for GBA gaming, and it's nice Nintendo are going to release two versions of Opera for the DS, one with a full size GBA cart, and one with a special mini cart for the Lite. There's also a Lite specific mini rumble pack out now too.

I was the same with the original ds, it got tossed about and treated quite harshly by me, but it suffered no ill effects and it was a truly tough machine, it barely has any scratches ffs!I am going to be far, far more careful with my lite, maybe treat it more like I treat my psp(careful, but not too careful to the extent of wearing gloves when playing the damn thing).

I also agree on the screen issue of the original DS, it was far better than both the Sp originals' and the AB modded GBA one.The screen was pretty decent until compared with these absolutely gorgeous screens of the lite.I rate the lite screens better than the PSP's and that is saying something considering how much I rave about the psp screen.

I also like the buttons and D pad better too, perfect and reminds me of the SFC pad, hope capcom finally releases SF2 or 3 on the machine.

The GBa cart sticking out doesn't bother me either, I don't even notice it whilst playing and as you say KN, if it did bother you too much, use a micro.I like the fact though that Ninty is addressing the issue and making smaller carts for peripherals for the lite, it's typical Ninty consumer friendly service.

In fact, I think the machine is the perfect handheld really, cannot find a fault with it.

Just caved in and got one. Gamestation were giving ?45 on the old DS so I traded mine in with a couple of games to bring the cost down. First impressions, very impressed. The screens are fantastic and seem far more brighter and colourful than the old DS screens. Plus you can take it outside and see the screens now aswell. Had a quick bash with mario kart and the D pad feels alot nicer now along with the buttons. Well worth the upgrade If your considering it.

How are you guys getting yours exchanged, I've got a bright blue pixel in the middle of the screen and game are refusing to exchange it telling me to take it up with Nintendo who tell me they need to me to send them the DS so they can inspect it..

Any suggestions, should I make something up ? Trouble is it's got to be something they can't prove with a quick test in the shop.

I got mine today, lovely little machine!

I do have what looks like one dead pixel on the top screen, but I suspect it's more a lazy one, or maybe even a little something under the screen??! Basically you can only see it on a white background (it shows up blue) On Black and any other colour - in games and that, you just cannot see it! Only on the menu screen which is not really a big deal!

Can't be bothered really to fuss about and exchange it when potentially I could get one that is worse!

Got it from HMV and the guy there showed me an information sheet they got from head office or somewhere saying that the official Nintendo line is that customers really should allow 4 weeks of regular use before worrying about dead pixels as it is possible they will come alive!

It also said they would exchange them in the interests of goodwill and that. The guy also told me that he hadn't seen many with that issue, and he did see what that was really bad, so I think mine is minor in comparison!

          Lovely machine all the same

Sorry to double post, and indeed sound more than a little paranoid BUT

Is it just me or is the Dpad on the like alot more kinda clicky and somwhat bouncy like the buttons? I hope that makes sense?!? You know because it sticks out more it's lovely and responsive, but it makes the odd noise when you roll it around and change directions in games and that!

I've given it a good test with Mario & Luigi, Animal Crossing and Star Wars Episode 3 and all the directions work perfectly, it just seems almost TOO responsive which sounds crazy, and clicks sometimes in rapid movements??!

Is it just me or am I crazy and not used to a Dpad which is better than the original unit?!

Could also be I spend my life playing with Analogue sticks, so I rarely use a Dpad these days!

just go in and quote the consumer selling act 1975 or something liek that

you have every right as a customer to return faulty goods if you arnt entirely satisfied

It's the retailer's responsibility - like Buster_broon said, the Sale of Goods Act 1975 (I think that's the date) says that new products have to be free of minor defects unless explicitly stated at the time of sale.

So unless they told you "there is a bright blue pixel in the middle of the screen" then they have no legal leg to stand on.

That said, Nintendo seem awfully good at helping out too.

on a funny note i asked the Game where i bought my DS lite about their policy on dead pixels, he had no idea so he phoned up his boss (a lady) and asked her, unsure of her reply but i heard him describe how the screen was made up

he then told me she didnt know what a pixel was and was sure the DS lite didnt have any pixels

true story - just said to him that if there is any i will return it to the store and he said fine, but my black unit doesnt seem to have any and to be honest they dont really bother me

Did that this morning and they said it does not matter they will not exchange it, apparently it's nintendo's problem not Game's.

Emailed Game's customer service about 5 days ago, no response yet.

                      Have I just got a **** shop ?

Just be careful of what you play on it mate, I've still got the image of what you did to that lovely Kingdom Hearts SP fresh in my mind!

As I mentioned before I think I have a funny pixel but my old DS is perfect and this one just cannot be seen so I will just live with it - more concerned about the dpad on mine as it feels funny - can't describe it, but perhaps it's just me not being used to it!

if you paid by a credit card i would just state you have bought a broken item and the store isnt doing anything about it

claim from them and sent it off and the credit card company will take care of getting the money back, tis the reason you pay for insurances on credit card purchases

trying to get star coins has cause me to throw it into my sofa from across the room and i've only owned it for less than a week

especially the mini mario coin on the volcano and spider platform level (both level 7 i think)

got a white one coming as a spare - just in case

                              Indeed matey!

That's not good! Hope your current machine survives!

I know like most Nintendo Handhelds, I'll porbably end up with another in due time - I have no less than 3 SPs, so I won't be investing in another yet, as I am poor - having said that the Black Lite I got yesterday was a late Bday present from the gf

And whilst I suffer from severe anger and frustration problmes I know that break my lite or throwing it would not only be silly, but would piss the gf off - and we all know that a women scourned it the worst kind!

but its all good Mario is now complete - my lite survives until the next game
