Strangely enough, the major video game retailers in my area still had stacks of the console left over when I showed up just before mid-day. I had noticed quite a few boxes on the shelf in gamestation, but they didn't have price stickers on them so I assumed they'd all sold. I walked up to the counter and spoke to guy, asking him if they had any in stock - he moves out of the way and jokingly says to me "Does it look like we're out of stock?" There must have been 20 at least sat on the cupboard behind him, plenty of both colours still left.

I wonder if I was the first to pick one up?

Picked up a white DS on my way in to work this morning.

Man, how desperate are Game to make you buy accessories and games when you get it? The woman just wouldn't take no for an answer. She tried to make me buy 3 different games which were on offer, then screen protectors (essential apparently) and then their accessory pack. Aaaaargh. Unbelievable.

They can't be making much if they're offering ?40 for a DS trade-in, maybe that's why they're pushing the extras.

Here's Nintendos response to dead pixels:

Dear Customer, thank you for your e-mail.

Extremely high precision technology is employed to produce the Nintendo
DS LCD screens. The result is more than 99.99% effective pixels with a
mere 0.01% of the pixels inactive or always lit. You will find this
situation in many LCD devices (PC monitors, televisions, cell phones,
etc.). However, this is not a malfunction.

It is important to understand that this issue will remain limited to the
pixels you have already noticed. The problem will not get any worse and
you should not expect to see the problem in any other areas of the
        screen.

We suggest you use your system for a few weeks to determine whether this
interferes with your enjoyment of game play. If, after using your system
for a while, you feel that this tiny dot is too distracting, the
Nintendo DS does carry a one-year warranty. We are happy to inspect and,
if necessary, fix your system at no charge within the warranty period.

        Kind regards,

        Your Nintendo Team

Is it just me or does that come across as really patronising?

Does the black one provide better contrast to the screen or does it not really matter due to the hoooge brightness?

Doesn't make any difference at all. Both mine look exactly the same (one of each).

It's just you - if you think about it it is a tiny dot! Had they used actually used bold for that particular sentence then I would've found it patronising though

They're a business after all so obviously they want to do what they can to help minimise returns as much as possible. The art of subtle persuasion.....

I was in GAME at dinner and was quickly set upon by a sales person asking me if I was looking to purchase a Lite. I told him I already had one, and I think he thought I was taking the piss. He then asked if I had all the accessories I needed, to which I replied yes, which obviously wasn't the answer he was after as he then proceeded to reveal a DS Lite complete with pointless ipod-style 'sock' carry case. I simply said I already had a case, and he left me alone then.

I also noticed that GAME are no pushing the DS for all its worth, in the Loughborough branch PSP stuff was at the front of the store and DS stuff was WAY at the back, now the two have been effectively switched. I know the launch of the Lite is probably the main reason for this but I can't help but feel that GAME, along with other high street stores, have underestimated how popular the machine is. Especially when there's bugger all coming out for the PSP at the moment.

Got my black one from Gamestation today. They were offering any game of your choice with the machine for ?109.99 (i got trauma center). They had stacks of white ones and a few black ones left near lunch time. I asked which was selling the most and it was the white ones, they just didn't get many black ones in.

It's such a nicer piece of kit than the old version and the screen quality is far superior. Love it.

Got a white Lite with Tetris from Gamestation today (and LocoRoco). They had loads of white ones but only one black 'un left. I might get another for 2 player fun with the missus.

Just picked up a black one from Gamestation. Wow! I was not anticipating such a massive improvement in screen quality even though everyone has been saying it for yonks.

Only powered it for a few mins to enter date etc. and on first inspection it seems there are no dead pixels. I think the new d-pad may take some adjusting to as it has quite a different feel to that on the original DS.

Black will come out in Japan too right? I'm waiting for that one.
I stood in GAME playing Biohazard on my JPN white one on Tuesday night just to piss them off after I was bombarded about how I should pre-order one to pick up on Friday morning.
                            Kept you waiting, huh?

Got my white one from game this morning and it has one stuck blue pixel halfway across the bottom screen. Phoned them up and was told it needs more than 13 faulty pixels for them to replace it... If it has 10 or more you wouldn't be able to see the bloody screen.

Tell them it's a defective product and the UK Sale of Goods Act 1975 (I think) as amended says that new products need to be free of minor defects and you would appreciate a replacement.

If not I'd open it up and make some more problems so they'd take it back. (Note I do not condone this activity etc etc)
