completely agreed, I hated the saturn dpad.

nintendo did invent the dpad after all.

Nintendo D-Pads are the standard by which all other D-Pads should be measured.

The Saturn D-Pad was OK, but it doesn't come close at all.

I think someone in this thread put his US machine in UK packaging and traded it in.

In fact i think Lyris is selling Original DS packaging in the sales thread!

There was obviously a lot of compromising with this new model. Trying to cram everything into a smaller model causes many other problems -- the speakers for one had to be degraded.

The screen is great, the D-pad will not be a problem for most games...my only real gripe, other than the fact Nintendo keep ripping me off with these quickly revised models, is that it is virtually the same weight -- unless you're wearing jeans the Lite will feel like a brick in your pocket again.

I simply, utterly cannot agree. No D-Pad has been able to touch how great the roller-base Saturn D-Pad felt in my eyes, especially when using diagonals.
I don't understand how anyone can actually like the feel of a Nintendo D-Pad (though they are miles above the Sony ones). Nintendo may have essentially invented the D-Pad, but Sega improved upon for formula with the Saturn, as any fighting fan will tell you.

Each to their own of course.

Fighting fans use joysticks, not pads.

really fancy one of those, kinda discouraged from importing a ds though for fear of bad pixels

Having played on the lite, all I can say is fantastic, fantastic!!!!They are simply beautiful little machines and the screen even puts the psp screen to shame as far as I am concerned. It's bloody beautiful having a micro quality screen for playing gba and DS games on the same machine.I can't wait to hook this up to my wii for some crazy ninty innovation, I bet they have some great stuff planned for the connectivity features this time round, especially in Japan wheree nearly everyone will have a DS sooner or later, cause of the rate it continues to sell at over there.

I wouldn't worry about dead pixels Roddie, even if there is one I am sure you could live with it.

I know, two and a bit ounces is not to be sniffed at.I feel it much lighter in both my pocket and hands, I guess there is just no pleasing some fools(meant sarcastically).

I originally bought a black dsl and was having loads of troubles with the d-pad. It wasn't responsive and moving diagonally became a chore in Partners in Time. There was a dead pixel so it got exchanged for a white dsl (which looks the nuts ) and the d-pad is now great. Obviously colour has nothing to do with it, but it's suprising/worrying that the quality between the d-pad on two new dsl can vary that much.

Had there been no dead pixel i'd have written the poor d-pad off as being a problem with the new design. Now I know it was just a duffer.

Hmm I may pick one of these up this weekend.

Do the GBA carts sticking out really annoy anyone here? If you play GBA games any more, of course!
