I despise both Pikmin and Half-Life.

    Boring, boring, boring...

I also liked JK2 - once you got to the later levels and could pick Stormtroopers up by their necks and toss them halfway across the level, or knock over 10 of them running towards you, satisfaction guranteed

Walking about with your Lightsabre off untill the very last minute was incredibly stylish too, I've not played a game that made me feel more like a Jedi than JK2.

Edit - you're not alone in thinking CC was better than CT either, Ady, I've always thought that. The inventive battle system and fantastic soundtrack (possibly Mitsuda's best work) really push it over the edge - one of the few RPG's I've gotten a real enjoyment out of, of recent times.

I found Starfox Adventures to be a relaxing & enjoyable experience & a great way to waste a few hours.

Final Fantasy 7 on the other hand was dull & repetitive, with annoying random battles that dragged on for an eternity of New Kids On The Block songs.

Nowt as queer as folk, eh?

The new "going against the grain" is going against that particular grain.

            New vogue for the moment.

It's why the term "hardcore" is viewed with such scorn right now. Being different or expressing a passionate, alternative opinion is considered 'elite', and hence resented. It's also why the old-age (and some might say tired view) towards companies like EA and more mass-market products really aren't taken kindly anymore.

I get the feeling that some areas of the specialist press have decided that's it's time gamers ease up towards a more accepting attitude of the mainstream and stop being so forgiving to the minority.

We're being made to feel traditonal cynicism within the industry is old-hat.

Mario Kart : inferior to Rockman Battle & Chase

Derived perverse enjoyment out of The Granstream Saga

Donkey Kong 64 : most appallingly boring game ever

              S.

(Oh, and I never thought I'd ever say this, but I think the English voice-acting in Final Fantasy X is actually pretty good)

I know what you mean, and I can't understand it either.

All of a sudden, veteran gamers who geniunely care about their hobby have been demonised in favour of fickle, dilletante culture vultures. Even industry people like Sony's Phil Harrison believe casual is the new 'hardcore' and see more dedicated players as remenants of a dying species that no-one really cares about any longer.

                Sad, but utterly true.

Im really interested to see what made you come to that opinion. I cant think of one way whatsoever that the sequel betters the original, so am intrigued as to what makes you feel that way about it. If you could expland on that it would be great.

Its not really going against the grain of this forum but with regard to the 'mainstream', preferring the FZero series over the wipeout series...

That and really hating 99% of FPS's

i thought Metriod Prime was nothing special, and Mario Sunshine to be one of the worst games i've played in 2002. I absolutly hate it.

Oh and Pikmin was boring. eternal darkness can go to hell.

Great use of the word Dilettante there. I learnt a new word today - thankyou!

Anyway, I used to be a hardcore gamers, delighting in learning the nuances of the latest Street Fighter etc. Sadly I haven't had the time recently to do the same. BUT if I was in the hallowed role of Viedogame reviewer you can bet I'd strive to champion 'hardcore' games. You shouldn't forget your roots and all that.

                            I guess I'm a dilettante hardcore!
