Is it too early to start thinking about PS3 preordering?

Ok, I couldn't find a thread about this here at NTSC, but now Sony have said it's an early November release, do you reckon a few places will start preorders? After the 360 debacle, I really want my name down pretty early on, and at a real shop ideally!

Or maybe if the price and firm date is announced at E3, then will be the time to preorder?

Screw the PS3 games, Blu-Ray movies and PS1/PS2 games upscaled to high-def already have me sold

Ultimately after all the 360 screw ups, I just don't know who to trust with my preorder

I can't think of a company who didn't screw over at least some of their custies with the 360 launch. At least there will probably be just the one SKU so there won't be any of that "sorry sir, I know you ordered a premium, but we were only allocated cores" malarky. i'm looking at you Dixons, Gamestation etc.

Edit:To answer the original thread question, no it's not too early, but I'll be waiting until a price is announced and at least one game that I really want is announced for launch.

If you gonna pre-order the only place to go is Game they where by far the most reliable for the 360 and they got more in stock then anywhere else.

I'm gonna go with Game like i have done with every console pre-order before.

As they are the biggest games retailer in the UK they get the most units and nothing beats actually going in to the store and picking the console up yourself. There's no doubts then on when the courier will arrive (if at all). Also you can phone up easily to find out what the crack is as many internet gaming websites either ignore your emails or send out generic messages which piss me off royaly.

99% of my PS1/PS2 games are NTSC-J so I'll be going that route again for PS3. Just waiting on the likes of play-asia and yesasia to open up the preorder book...

Wonder if Sony will do the same as with the PSP though and crack down on PA etc shipping PS3's to Europe ?

I asked VG+ a few day's ago when they would be taking pre-orders for the PS3. They said "when a definite price has been confirmed because right now it's as real as the tooth fairy" LOL.

Maybe, but I see no reason why they'd want to since they'll supposedly be available Worldwide. Saying that, play-asia still don't sell PSP products to the UK despite that being available here now...

As much as I love them, the problem preordering with Yesasia is that come release day, when they realise there are stock shortages, they're likely to ignore your early preorder in favour of selling to people prepared to pay a premium - see the PSP launch, DS Lite launch...

I've never had that problem tbh. I've preordered several items that got the price jacked (Sega Rally steering wheel being the most recent) and they honoured the initial price each time.

Hmm... undecided at the moment whether to go for a PAL or JPN machine, will probably go with a JPN machine in the end given 90% of my PS2 collection is in fact, Japanese.
