Can someone tell me how to play E4? Just tried the trial and it looks awesome, but I don't have a clue what to do really.

Theres a old first play thread for the predecessing PSP version, have a search for that, I remember putting quite a few hints and tips in there - the core idea of the game remains the same.

Also there's a: 'How to play' menu in the pause menu of the game. That may help.

Don't think my suggestion above will help that much, after one go on EEEE it is quite a different game to the PSP version, suggest you use the in game help idea.

I read the "how to play" and still had absolutely no idea what was going on...

                Aye, it's no use.....

The point of the game is to just explode yourself and make a huge chain-reaction, against the floaty enemies. The bigger reaction, the better the combos and multipliers you get. Its basically a mix of missile command.

                    how to play e4

Blow yourself up to unleash chains - bigger chains give bigger scores and release collectables.

White collectable increases shield time (how long you can last before blowing yourself up or dying)

Red collectable is a Quicken - collect these to speed up your bpm and the enemy waves (though I personally feel this maxes out around 30-40 and then becomes useless apart from the 50 achievement)

Blue collectable is your multiplier - dunno how many each one counts as but you can max it out at 100x (this takes a lot more than 100 blue collectables)

                    Yellow increases your time

Die and the blue and red collectables return to zero - everything slows down and your multiplier is reset.

You explode yourself by pressing A - press it in time with the beat of the music (use the beat bar at first but you soon start using the music itself) and you get a bigger explosion, resulting in further chains.

Once you start getting the bigger chains (on the unlimited mode) it becomes a case of do you wait for the chain to run its course giving you that higher score or do you stop it early to grab some yellow collectables giving you more game time.

On the time challenges it's more a situation of building up your multiplier in the early stages without dying and then reaping the rewards in the end stages ... a big chain with a good multiplier will give you 100,000,000,000+ points which can significantly boost up your score.

that's the basics as I have sussed out today - lagging well behind on the leaderboards now (around 240,000,000,000,000 behind 1st place at the mo )

ps press B to stop your chain (only works when your beat bar returns to zero) ...

Zero purchases from me this week. Didn't like Every Extend Extra on the PSP and I like E4 just as much. Speedball hasn't aged well unfortunately. But hey, the 3D new improved version might be good but I'm not paying 800pts to find out.

I am loving speedball tbh, I don't think it's aged too badly. I still suck at it though

god its like I'm having false memory syndrome, I genuinely recall speedball as being an amazing game but have to say its a crock.

i don't think this is a bad port or version either, its just a game that hasn't aged well at all. it feels so simplistic and clunky.

They've done a good job with Speedball 2 I think. Apart rom the music being all wrong.
The game plays much faster than the Amiga PAL version (and in a much larger window if you so desire).

The controls have transferred pretty well to the 360 pad, although aftertouch took me a couple of goes to get the feel of.

I can imagine how someone coming to it for the first time (I was there on launch day) would find it clunky and basic.

The '3D' makeover is totally meh for me; uglier and ultimately pointless. I would rather have paid 400 points for the game without it.

Brutal Deluxe is still an excellent game for me and I played it most of yesterday, but there's some stuff about the port I don't like. Mostly small things like the sound effects not being the same, but the game seems to have a major problem with the AI/controls.

In particular, the CPU can't decide very well which player to give you control of at times. Plus, I have so far been unable to make a challenge for the ball at "kick off". In fact, you can hardly move at all sometimes untill the CPU player has grabbed the ball. None of this **** happened in the Amiga version. You could steam right in and take the ball, or flatten your opponent every time. Hopefully, it'll get patched.

Dloaded SB2 last night but only got to play E4 (crack) so I'll give it a whirl tonight - both on the trials but E4 is a cert now - at 800 points SB2 could be skipped.
