What bastards. Think I'll get onto my contact at Atari about that one.

Downloaded the full version of Small Arms and it's pretty damn good, the AI isn't amazing but I can imagine it being a blast with 3 mates.

Also I'm playing this on a SDTV at the moment (not at home) and there seems to be quite a bit of tearing.

Edit - should add that the Edge review mentioned we'd get this content for free ( though obviously they could have had their sources mixed up at the time ). However, the promo material states the game contains over 125 licenced cars and motorcycles, in fact there are only about 80 available. ( though looking at the game packing it says 90 vehicles ).

On a brighter note, there are two additional car downloads that are free, a Chevrolet? Corvette? C1 1957 and a Lexus IS 350.
They said the US one was cheaper because they would have to pay for extras. atari should be shot with cack guns!

The way I read it the US one was cheaper because Atari knew people would cough up for the extras, but in Europe we don't buy add-ons so much so they wanted to make all their money up front with the initial purchase of the game.

It's a scam, no two ways about it, but it's also a free market and companies can charge whatever they like.

If the market was that free, Test Drive Unlimited wouldn't have been region locked

I thought TDU was a pretty good deal - I won't be buying any addon cars, I dont care enough about any game or one particuar car to do that. Just look at whats happening with NFS:Carbon though. Plenty of cars released for that at 80 points a pop! Now THAT is a rip off imho! That's just marketplace madness for the sake of it. But then, what else would we expect from EA...

There's a definitely distinction between this content and the NFS:Carbon stuff - this is new content not on the disc, whereas EA's offering was unlock codes for cars already in the game that could be gained by actually playing it instead.

Didn't (at the risk of incurring the wrath of half the forum here) Ridge Racer 6 do the same thing? Unlock keys? Mind you, they were free!

Your missing the point, TDU was sold a lot cheaper in the US than it was in Europe the reason being US owners would buy more packs. We paid more and still have to buy the packs. I bought a cheap asian copy 2nd hand and ill be downloading the free cars, they can stick the points pack up their backsides!

I think in RR6 you paid for extra music tracks thats all.

Do these stay on the HDD forever or have a expiry after downloading?

                            Comment

Depends on what it is you d/l - the movies don't ( stay on the HDD for 14 days - once you start watching you have 24 hours with it ), the TV shows do.

Looks like the SD TV Show d/ls @ $2 undercut the DVD releases if you add up the cost of the entire season by a few $, using movietyme's cost price, so the pricing seems pretty reasonable. The movie rentals seem pricey compared to the monthly 'unlimited' rentals, but then you do get to pick the exact movie you want. So overall, I think the pricing of the US content is well placed.
