Yet they don't mind they get treated to fancy shows and such like. Review scores have always been dodgy.

I think what grates me with the reviews is there's a clear streak of bias in some of them with the level of criticism they take. Over the course of it's development quite a few journo's will have seen and played the game including a couple of months ago when Gearbox made a near final version available at a preview event yet there was none of these issues raised then.

Yes, because unionising would somehow compel publishers to supply review copies free of charge would it? Besides, how is blacklisting certain sites from receiving review copies any worse than magazines and sites over the years giving good reviews to questionable games in order to keep their supply of ad revenue and freebies coming?

So journalist's should complain about not getting every single game ever made for free?

I can only speak personally, but the site I work for, every single copy is provided by the publisher. If we had to buy a game to review it, that's fair enough. Review code is a priviledge, not an entitlement, and moaning about not getting something free, is kinda crass.

The nice things you see and experience more than make up for missing out on a free game here and there. Far be it for a journalist to actually support the industry they work in, and BUY a game now and again eh.

Edit: I'm not saying Eurogamer are complaining either btw.

Despite the reviews Duke Nukem Forever has made a profit and Take Two has all but said there will be a Duke Nukem 5

Well I look forward to not playing Duke Nukem 5 in 2021.

There was already a Gearbox designed Duke game in the works: Duke Nukem Zero. Sure they won't let all that work go to waste.

I'll be interested to see how they'll try to make the character seem relevant again.

Well, there was a Duke Nukem Zero Hour already released for the N64 - hopefully it's not a remake of that as it was probably far ****ter than Forever.

lol at the time it wasn’t that bad. Though admittedly it hasn’t aged well.

The news about Zero came out when Take Two sued 3DR. It’s a separate game which was supposed to come out before Forever - based on some of the comments in the firstplay thread it’s probably better too.

Profitable for who? Surely it didn't recoup 14 years of development costs...

It'll be for Gearbox/Take Two. No doubt the money lost on the 14yrs dev cycle has been lost for good for 3D Realms etc. Gearbox/Take Two would just be looking at the cost of finishing the game and acquiring the IP for it to be considered a hit
