PS2 is also my most-played console. It gathered dust for long spells during the first year or two, especially when I got a Gamecube, but it's pretty-much essential now, especially for the JP stuff.

There are a lot though. I've considered selling some of my PS2 games a few times as there's definitely a few that I could easily do without. Each time I get that urge though I have a look through them and realise the majority of them are games I would rather keep.

Even if I had a clearout and was ruthless at deciding which games made the cut, there would probably be over 100 left...

+1 for PS2 love. Certainly became my sleeper favorite console of this current generation and still some really really great looking games still to come out - Okami, ESPgaluda 2, FF XII that Level 5 game, is it called Rogue Galaxy? looks awesome. Still a whole load of games that i have yet to pick up but def intend to some time soon.

Its just because it's got the best developer support. I buy Nintendo consoles for First Party Nintendo games which usually result in a smaller amount of really really excellent games. Ps2 has the variety and has the best Jap developed games (that are none Nintendo). Must say I've traded or sold most of my xbox games but have enjoyed a lot of them especially the Live muitiplayer ones.

I expect the PS3 to repeat what has happened with the ps2. Initial Hardware will be problamatic and first gen software to be quite ****e really. I expect that stuff to look nothing like the target footage. It's all emotion engine E3 2000 lies all over again. Then after a few years the console will truely take off and i expect a wonderfully varied selection of games to become available.

The big problem isn't when to get a ps3 (i'm waiting) but how to ensure i have a fully multi region console. A chipped PS2 is a wonderful thing, sticking to one region in regard to the playstation (the point of importing a 360 is.....?) will result is missing out on a huge range of software.

        excuse my mad ramblings.

I just couldn't imagine playing something like Ratchet and Clank on the Cube or Xbox, all the Nintendo games of that type were usually in-house and the Xbox platformers (yeah, there's a few) just tried far too hard. It's easy to forget that the first Ratchet and Clank came along at a time when the platformer was all but dead and buried. R7C made it all look and feel so effortless.

As for finding more than 100 games that are essential on the PlayStation 2, not an easy task, as many of the more popular games were ported over to the Xbox. But games like the Devil May Cry series (even 2), the Onimusha series, Silent Hill 3, SOS: The Final Escape, Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner, Freak Out, FF X/X-2, Chaos Legion, Forbidden Siren, The Mark of Kri, Gran Turismo 4, Tekken 4/5, Kingdom Hearts, God Of War, Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil, Gregory Horror Show make me glad to have a PlayStation 2. Then there's the imports...

          My collection at the minute:
          PS2: 90
          PSP: 7
          GC: 13
          Xbox: 14
          DC: 10

That's been thinned out a bit, though it's pretty representitive of the past few years.

yep i second that statment about the PS2 being the most played console, for about 5 years i could only play jap games, ow that ive replaced my old console with a new modded version, i am playing the classics i could never touch in the past. Its almost as if come in late for the party but jus intime to pick up some great bargains. It comes close to the same feeling i have for my DC and GC, they feel special, and the ps2 although not 100% in the snuggley factor is a worthy contender.

Where else can you play all the silent hills, all the MGSs, all the ridge racers, all the Final Fantasys? all the DMCs. Also whole host of other games i cant remember at the mo' Good Shout out there man!

I have to admit I do share the love for the PS2 and have more games for it than any other console. As a fan of TRPGs it really has been the best console for these games for long time. The only one to run it close has been the PS1.

I've got say though my PS2 owning life has not been without its hitchs though as I have actually had 2 warranty replacement slim consoles since I my first slim when they came out year before last. I didnt have one problem with my older one- which got stolen.

If I hadnt had this bad luck with my 4 PS2s though it would be a very strong contender for all time favourite, but its all luck of the draw and I would rather remember the good times with the decent games I've had. Its just a shame those memories have been jaded by these problems I've put up with for one reason or another.

After being dissapointed with the machine when it first came out it is know my fave machine of the gen I am a single player gamer mainly who likes RPGs and shmups and the PS2 has given me this is in spades with Gradius V, ESPgaluda, Dragon Quest, the Mega-ten games and along with DMC3, MGS3 and Team ICOs efforts has been a great machine not my favorite ever but great none the less and their plenty still to come as well. You do need to import with the machine to get the best stuff though.

The PS2 is my most played console this generation as well, the fact that Sony have been dominant in terms of sales from the PSX days onwards meant that the PS2 was always going to get the lions share of top titles from 3rd party developers. The machine itself is nothing special,it's weaker than the competition spec wise, it looks fugly, the pad is **** for quite a lot of games especially racers & FPS' but it's the number of quality of games that make the machine worth owning.

It has the best selection of fighters(Tekken 5,VF 4 Evo, GGXX Reload etc), arcade shooters(Gradius V, Dodonpachi DOJ, Mushihimesama etc)arcade racers(Initial D, Outrun 2 C2C etc), RPGs (Disgea, Dragon Quest VIII etc) and my personal favourite Bemani/music games(IIDX,Popn'music, Guitar Hero etc) anyone that says otherwise is a misguided fool.

Jack of all trades in my eyes. Every genre is well catered for with a large number of good games, but I feel that the number of exclusive must-haves is much lower than either Xbox or Cube. Solid, but nothing spectacular.

Master of the rpg for me - if I could only have one of my consoles (plus the games of course) it would me the modded PS2.

Without backward compatibility it would be close with the original Playstation ...

Just bought myself a silver slimline last week and there is a huge back catalogue for me to work my way through including games i've never played e.g. Metal gear, Final Fantasy, Silent Hill etc Where to begin?

Dark Chronicle, GT3 & 4, GTA: Vice City, Tekken Tag, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet and Clank etc all sucked up a LOT of time...i think its pretty underrated.

Also, it has a LOT of fighting games (more variety by miles than any other console) with the backwards compat: pretty much ALL the Streetfighters, lots of SNK ports, Guilty Gear, Tekkens, VF4...it pretty much has that genre sown up.
