It's mental how Nintendo can sell 6 different hardware units that can play the same software (GBA)

Looking at these figures and the all out domination of the ds in its various guises over the psp, and you really have to question just how much longer sony can stay in a battle they can't win. I wonder if the ps3 might invigorate the psp and bring some new functionality?

I didn't know the GameCube has sold so little in Japan as well. Wonder.

Well, they've still sold >3 million of them versus 500,000 Xboxes, and Microsoft are still trying!!

I'd love to know how well DS is doing in other regions? Last I heard it was losing to PSP by a small margin (3PSP:2DS?). I imagine that DSlite might change that, but obviously Nintendo can't make enough of them for Japan at the moment, let alone us foreigners

Sony will sell the PSP as long as it's profitable in Japan, if sales continue as they are however within 12 months or so, I'm pretty sure Sony will have to accept they aren't going to get the number 1 spot in the handheld market quite as quickly as they did in the home console market at least in Japan.

Nope the PSP is losing in every major region.

In Europe the DS has about a 2:1 lead. In the USA the charts are still dominated by the GBA SP then a bit behind are the DS and the PSP (in that order).

However the sales of the PSP have not been poor (IMO) Nintendo just outdid them.

in the end the PSP must be profitable for Sony

even if its not for the hardware - software sales must keep it afloat

the PSP will be around to stay for a long time

and this is coming from a ninty fanboy btw just incase you think i'm teh uber r@rez Sony fanbois

I think the PSP is doing better than the DS in the UK. But we're all anti Nintendo in the UK tbh ;p

blimey, Brain Training 1+2, English Training, Animal Crossing and Mario Kart have sold almost as much as the entire PSP catalogue combined in Japan o_O

Actually in the UK the PSP is beating DS According to this article:
                            http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=64317

Which is quite bad for Nintendo considering that the DS had a 6 month lead...

                            Quote:
In terms of the big DS successes of last year, Super Mario 64 DS was far and away the biggest DS seller (and the second best selling handheld game overall after GTA), with impressive sales of over 200k - well up on the initial launch sales of Super Mario Advance in 2001 (which were around the 167k mark). Mario Kart DS' sales were, surprisingly, somewhat less stellar. Although sales of over 100k were enough to make it the second best-selling DS title of the year(...)
Predictably, Nintendo utterly dominated the top DS sellers, with combined sales of the three Nintendogs titles totalling almost 200k up to the end of 2005 (far and away the top selling being Lab & Friends with almost 100k).
                            Quote:
Game sales wise, you can probably guess that GTA: Liberty City Stories completely ran away with it. In just eight weeks, Rockstar clocked up over 360k, making it the best selling handheld title since Pokemon Yellow back in summer 2000.(...)

Beyond that, football titles appear to be the hottest property among PSP owners long starved of decent handheld games in the genre. The arrival of Pro Evolution Soccer 5 in week 47 was very warmly received indeed, with sales of almost 150k - over 20k ahead of FIFA 06, which gives a fair indication of the continuing shift in the balance of power in the all-important football market.

                              How many bloody times???

                              It isnt a competition!!!!!!!!!!!

For crying out loud, Sony can still make billions and billions from the PSP REGARDLESS of how the DS perfoms.

                              *sighs*
