Yeah the price is over what we expected but its not bothering me in the slightest, its still considered as cheap if you ask me. And I'll gladly pay the price for it, cheaper anyway by importing so I'm not dissapointed at all.

So when are Mario and Metroid going to be out?

Jebus, what's there to say a good combo deal won't come out when the Wii is released, making it better value?

Looked at from a RRP point:

Wii
Console+game= ?180

360 core
Console+game= ?230 (with a ?20 older game)

This doesn't even factor the memory card, but it's ?20 (at RRP) hence we bump it to ?250 now.

Indeed, I see your point but we really can't compare the 360/Wii experiences anyway I guess.

As I said, of what I've seen of the Wii I was concerned about the "gimmick" factor and it's longevity, so I'm almost glad I'll have to wait and see how it pans out before I take the plunge.

Once again, a 360 may be more expensive but still say I know what I'd prefer.

I'm also very disappointed with that price. At ?180, it's now firmly outside of the range of "impulse-buy". And multiplayer isn't even possible without extra investment. Hardly an aggressive attempt to get a Wii into every home!

I suppose Nintendo is saving a price drop for March and the PS3 launch.

In any case, what's the chances Microsoft will roll out a price drop at the start of the holiday season, forcing Nintendo into a pre-launch price cut like they did with the GC?

Know that feeling missed the 360 launch myself, One look at the Wii raving Rabbids trailer sells this to me ( will also get the 360 version as they are diff games)

Yeah, that's what I believe too. If we were indeed being picky, we could even say the 360 is a far more powerful piece of hardware, hence the pricetag, but that's not the point. The 360 and PS3 will bear the comparisions (graphics, media etc.), the Wii will do it's own thing. I guess the lack of a DVD player is perhaps the biggest hint towards this.

Likewise, i'll pay the price, but it still bothers me. I hate the way Europe always gets done up the arse. I mean, ?250 adds up to about $340, that's a big increase from $250 regardless of the tax charges. Very dissapointed.

The console should have been ?150 max. And to top it of, it seems it won't be region free after all - I couldn't have come away from Nintendo's press conference today anymore dissapointed.

And don't get me started on the cost of those controllers, absolutely ridiculous.

The Cost of the machine is a tad expensive for me (hoping for cheaper, but I'll still pick one up).

It's like a few people have stated the cost of the controllers is mental, it'll cost a small fortune for some fourplay <ahem> four players.

I'm hoping it's going to be cheaper to import the controllers.

I am thinking twice about buying one period, this console is meant to be cheaper due to the lower specs, but if you shop about you can get a core 360 for ?179.99.

Remember the Wii has no dvd playback due to it bumping up the costs. I am shocked that Nintendo could be that greedy. They are sure to be making ?100 on a UK console.

Regarding the wi-fi, that IS being picky because you don't NEED it. The same goes for the wireless pads, the Wii HAS to be wireless because otherwise games like Golf/Tennis/Conductor would be difficult and uncomfortable.

You can pick up a memory card for a tenner on here or ebay. So to say it's ?100 more is a complete exaggeration in my book unless you are paying ?60 for a memory unit. (You did say we were being really picky )

I still know what I'd prefer...and I'm not having a go at the Wii really, I'm just terribly terribly disappointed.

I know what you are saying though mate. Fair enough the controllers are expensive due to the tech involved but the actual machine should be a fair bit cheaper than 180 spond. But i guess it's Nintendo and they always manages to make money on Hardware.

Also what's happening with the different colours? I just bought a black DS lite you swines!!

I just got back from the press event and it was AMAZING. Am rather amused to see that MCV haven't retracted their earlier news story 'leaking' the release date and pricing which is now confirmed to be wrong.

Oh and the folks at Eurogamer can't tell the time, the press conference was seriously late and didn't start till past 12:30.
