I've pre-ordered mine already. Number 1 on my local Gamestations' list. I too am a little disappointed about the slightly higher UK price but at the end of the day that always seems to be the case with UK hardware. SNES, GBA, PS2, DS, 360, PS3; they've all cost more than they're inter-continental counterparts.

Ho hum. Still hasn't put a damper on what I'll be playing on my 1 year wedding anniversary:

Zelda, Excite Truck, Red Steel, Trauma Centre, Wii Sports. Maybe a couple more, depends what the wife says.

Still, what an amazing excuse to get the day off work. "Yeah, it's my wedding anniversary. No, no it's got nothing to do with the midnight launch for that new Nintendo Wii thingey...ahem...gotta go...byeeeeee"

I must admitt though even though ive pre ordered one, for what it is, it is a tad over priced.

Remember the Wii has no dvd playback due to it bumping up the costs. I am shocked that Nintendo could be that greedy. They are sure to be making ?100 on a UK console.

You forget the US/Japan prices have no sales tax on them (and we get charged 17.5% here, without that the price would actually be ?148.50) and there's an import charge payable due to the European Union regulations (remember Sony trying to get the PS2 classed as a computer?) which adds a bit to the price as well.

Regarding Virtual Console stuff being region locked, isn't that just a bit strange considering one of the main thrusts for having it, as said by Iwata or Reggie before, was so people from any country could play games that were never released in their region originally?

Still, I was going to be importing a US model anyhow regardless of the region coding. I had hoped I'd be able to buy some cheap UK versions secondhand as well from time to time. Unless NoE are ****ing up their facts once more (wouldn't surprise me). Would be funny though if the US Wii is region free and the European one isn't

Man I hate to think of how much it'll cost for a Wii package I'd like.

3 x Wii remotes + 3 x Nunchucks for multiplayer ?126 or something
2 x Classic controllers ?28
2 x 2000 wii points ?14 (for some virtual console games)
?10-?15 for 1gb SD card (presuming it takes any)
4 x Wii games ?160

= ?518/?523

It may be alot but considering with a PS3 you could only get the console and a controller + game or 2 games for the same price it's not that bad.

If so they're getting it for around ?320 (no tax) so that's ?100 cheaper than the uk!! So what are we complaining about?

Pal progressive scan was not legal in the UK at the time the gamecube was in development

I am thinking twice about buying one period, this console is meant to be cheaper due to the lower specs, but if you shop about you can get a core 360 for ?179.99.

What happens if the VC is locked to a non UK line ?

We can speculate about that all we want though and get no-where.

VC stuff could be decided by region of console, so we'll have to download US content.

It could be determined by location the player sets, 360-style, in which case we have to download UK content. We might be lucky and get a little workaround like the 360, who knows.

It's certainly not affecting my decision to get a US unit.

Yeah, well we were complaining about ?180. ?125 is a nice price indeed, but you'll have to pay a fair bit more to get it to you unless your picking one up in Japan. As soon as I know that I won't have any problems with a US console in the UK i'll order one and I don't think there will be any problems but I want to be sure.

Nah hopefully mine wont cost a fortune as i have a nice friend in japan to get one for me so i'll get it for a hell of a lot less than play asia or other online places. It's not going to cost that much to send either (unless it weighs the same as a xbox)

It really shocks me in this day & age that people still keep giving NOE chances. If you buy PAL you just going to come unstuck down the line. With software droughts & game no shows, i dont believe for one minute that it will be region free.

Ive heard rumors of it been free & the games publishers choose weither to region lock. Im just too sceptical of nintendo, they really hate people importing. I have seen it so many times in the past.

1) Customs, postage, step downs (meaning it will cost about ?180 for a Japanese unit)

2) The fact i want to use Virtual Console
