Most of my friends run all their stuff with composite, even the ones with HD-TVs - they're not as bothered as I am.
Same here! Half my mates are just narrow minded casual gamers. One of them has just bought an LCD TV. He said it was the nuts and it was HD ready. But it turned out to be an argos exclusive **** LCD TV with no component connection on it and with major ghosting issues. AND to make it worse he connected it up with a composite cable!

That to him was HD! I didn?t say anything though because he paid a lot for it.

No wonder Nintendo aren't going for HD gaming yet. Because half the people that own a HDTV (or think they own one) don't even connect it up right!

Yeah exactly the same with one of my mates, Bought a new LCD which he thought was immense, but the picture quality is worse than it was on his old CRT! But he at least uses a Scart cable, just not an RGB one! I didnt want to hurt his feelings though so didnt say a thing!

But then when they brag about it in the pub you just want to turn around and say "mate! it's a pile of ****! You wasted hundreds!"

"Mate, you need to run this through a component lead before it becomes HD"

          "But they're expensive!"

Exactly, and then they walk into my kingdom of heaven complete with HDTV, 5.1 surround and all that jazz and they dont give a damn, yet think their little LCD is the muts nuts!

            Anyway, back on topic.

I think in my head, Ive been worried that the Wii will look really crap on my HDTV but the reality is it will still look pretty nifty as long as its in 480p so those component cables are a must to have when I eventually get my console. I may even chuck on Wind Waker today for some old school gamage.

Not all games run in 480p though We'll have to make a Wii 480p thread with a list.

Ahhh, ok, Im not bothered anymore then. This would explain why the cable is so much cheaper then?

I alway preferred Ixos component cables over 1st party ones for my PS2 and Xbox but the Ninty GC component cable was SO good though.

                  Another big query....

USB 2.0 LAN adaptor, how does this work? Will it require a PC to bridge the connection (via USB, same as Wifi dongle) or will it accept a static LAN cable coming straight from my NTL cable modem like I use on the 360?

The problem is even whenever I get my PC working it catches tons of viruses after a few days from dodgy porno sites and then stops working again.

Hmm. Not really worth waiting for is it. Everyone must have a DVD player by now.

The way it worked when i was QA on BWii was just a standard ethernet into the adaptor which ran into a HUB of other ethernets.

I'm hoping it'll be a simple as that for the retail wiis, plug it into USB on the Wii and plug the ethernet into the socket for internet access, why nintendo just didnt plonk an ethernet in the machine is beyond me.

I'd love to see the internals of a Wii, I bet it's uber cramped in there. I know NICs aren't exactly physically massive these days, but my guess is that they made the ethernet adapter a separate device to make the console smaller. That and the fact that they can get away charging a premium for it.

In Wii sports, how do you move your player around the court, is that done with the nunchuk analogue stick?

I thought all US games would be 480p? Isnt that the case with all US Cube games though?

Player movement is automatic. I guess this because of newcomers to games, i hope we'll see a fully fledged mario tennis game which uses manual control of the player in the court

Yikes! It's automatic? Doesn't that kill half the challenge?
