The thing about the GBA Micro was its price. £69.99 was just too much for old tech, particularly with the fully backward compatible DS being available for around £20 more.
I always thought the Micro should've been around £30 tops and sold in places such as petrol stations and newsagents as well as game stores. That would make it a great impulse buy. And with faceplates packs at around £5 (as someone else suggested), that would've made it the perfect cheap alternative handheld to the DS.
