Our consoles could also have a PAL/NTSC option should you import any game from Can/US. That would be cool, we'd have the best version of a console, ever.

Yeah, it's ironic. My PC-gamer Microsoft-hating friends don't understand how the gaming community is beginning to quite appreciate MS' efforts. It took me a long time to overcome my prejudices and realise that the Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, while still the product of a corporate behemoth etc etc, are a lot more "Classic Microsoft Mouse" than they are "Windows ME"

Nintendo are improving but I hate the long waits & Sony are Sony.
But there's no doubt that all 3 are improving with 60hz, full screen, improvments made to the games themselves and release dates are being shortened.

To get back to the original article, I do hope the Japanese consumers actually follow through on this, and make Wii their console of choice.
I believe it would really be good for gamers everywhere, and developers too. For too long now games have been driven by flashy graphics, to the point where gameplay is a totally secondary concern. Not always of course, but in too many cases. And because of the cost of these visuals, we've seen publishers becoming ever more conservative about what they will green light.
Hence we're now pretty much stuck with a choice between a new FPS, a new racing game, a new sports game, or perhaps once in a while... a new fighting game. It's so rare we see new concepts emerging.
This is bad for developers too, as their ideas are rarely allowed to see the light of day. Plus the amount of work and time needed for flashy 'next-gen' visuals is pretty crushing.
Wii is a way out, an escape route. Short development cycles and low cost, which should hopefully mean new ideas can finally be green lit. And for what it's worth, I don't have any problems with Wii visuals, they really look fine to me. Clean, smooth, and shiny. I personally think we're past they era where graphics looked crude and unappealing, so further improvements now will always be relatively small.

From this point on we're going to see smaller and smaller boosts in power between generations. We're not there yet but we're pushing CG quality visuals with the current hardware and there's only so far we can go beyond that. Where do we go next generation? The same thing but with more stuff on screen for ?400 again? At least this one can push the envelope somewhat when it comes to online games and innovate there, but what can the next ones do that we haven't seen before to a lesser degree?
In that sense we need something like the Wii that gives the opportunity for new stuff to be tried.

Originally posted by MrDoI think what you say here is bull****! Eyetoy is a great innovative peripheral and if Nintendo or Microsoft thought of it first, you can bet they would've released it for there consoles.
God of War, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and Gran Turismo.
Eye Toy wasn't innovative, they were just the first company to put an already existing PC product on a console.
God of War, good game but hardly innovative, a game that is essentially devil may cry.
ICO indeed a eternal classic and Collossus certainly has a charm.
Gran Turismo is upto 5 games now, and has barely changed since the first one almost 10 years ago. Buckets of innovation.
So what is that? 2 and a half games out of hundreds of sony games?
You consider the sheer volume of PS2 consoles that have been sold.. over 100 million.
Sony give us almost 3 original games for that....great.
