    NTSC-J Exclusive PSP Games.

So, I've just bought my second PSP and should be here next week, i already got 7 games on rout which of course i will play fully, but ultimate ghosts n goblins is something that i cannot ignore, although, i've missed so much, hence is was an easy decision to buy my second. (should this be in the psp is dead thread! )

Anyway, I've just bought djmax portable from lik-sang, as i fancy some crazy rhythm action, and i like anime/manga e.t.c although i have never got into it heavily, but always found it very pleasing on the eye.

Can anyone give me some decent Japanese exclusives to look into, anything but RPG's as it's too much hassle with a walk through e.t.c.

There must be some gems i've never heard off, so please shout up in this thread and i'll look into them. Thank you

While not quite an exclusive as such one of my favorites is Initial D Second Stage, great conversion from the Arcades and update to the PS2 Arcade stage released a couple of years back.

It has a card reward system, so instead of getting points to upgrade you pick a random card that can either be used for upgrading or customising your car or unlocking hidden features such as new backgrounds and BGM. The controls are a little sensitive by default but thankfully they can be adjusted in the settings.

I picked up a sealed copy a month or two back from a UK trader on Ebay for about ?14.00.

If you like brawlers and you want the quirkeness that comes with manga, Kinnikuman Muscle Generations may just deserve your attention. I haven't played many wrestlers in my time but I do have the previous Kinnikuman outings on GC and PS2, and the PSP takes the PS2 versions control system adds a couple more wrestlers and a new story mode and arcade mode as well to the package that was on the PS2.

The graphics are all in there and unlike the GC or PS2 when you initiate a caharcters top special move their it know seemlessly flows into it instead of having a loading pause. It's very colorful the characters expressions on their faces are amusing before, during and after the bouts and the in-game commentry just flows like a real event.

If you see it cheap anywhere it might be worth checking out.

    Hope that helps.

Bleach Heat The Soul 3 is the one game that makes me wish I had a PSP. If you like anime fighting games then you should check it out

Well for a rythm game which isn't quite so crazy there is Taiko no Tatsujin Portable, despite only using regular button presses it's great fun with loads of tunes (including downloadable extras). A sequel is coming up soon also which will be able to play all the previously downloadable extras tracks. There is a conversion of PS2 Gitaroo Man just released also but I've not played it (or the PS2 version) - comments have been generally good, but I think maybe it's getting a translation(?).

If you're after something guaranteed never to make it out of Japan, then you could always go for a train simulator game! I, and quite a few others, imported Mobile Train Simulator+Densha de Go! which came out quite early in the PSPs life as it quite uniquely uses FMV, but there have been a bunch of PS2 conversions of the Densha de Go series since (Yamanotesen, Chuosen, Osaka kanjousen, and just released Tokaidousen.. take your pick!). There's also the flight simulator, Jet de Go!

For a shoot-em-up there's Star Soldier which you need to play with the PSP rotated, probably the only game on the PSP like it.

Apart from those (all pretty old except Gitaroo Man) suggestions, I have noticed a couple more 'unique' Japanese PSP games which have recently been released: Portable Island Tenohira Resort (palm of your hand resort) which I am thinking about checking out.. and the 'Finder Love' series - a new FMV game where you follow an Japanese 'idol' (ie. swimsuit model) and take pictures of them!

DJ max portable isn't a japanese game, it's korean and besides that he already has it.

i couldn't agree more. if you are into shmups then you need to get yourself Star Solder, it's lot's of fun and it is in tate-mode!

loco-roco, though not a jap-exclusive, hell the euro release was even ahead of the jap release(!), it is lot's of fun!

also 1941 on the capcom classics game lets you play like that
works very well so i would think star soldier would be great was it a budget title when it came out?

Princess crown, a converstion of the highly rated and expensive saturn game. It is a action rpg though, more action than rpg so i understand.

Another vote for Star Soldier and the version of 1941 Counter Attack in Capcom Classics Collection Remixed.

Fast, furious and challenging TATE Mode Shoot-em-up action.

                      Brilliant.

I keep meaning to pick up IQ Mania & XI Colosseum, which are both puzzle games & they're fairly cheap I think.

Star Soldier was a nice little game, only gripe I had was how awkward I found it to hold the PSP in the way required. shame really as it looked absolutely Stunning on the PSP

Yeah i'm curious about this, do you have to hold the PSP in 'TATE' mode and still somehow have to use the triangle, X, Square and Circle buttons to shoot? Isn't that a bit awkward?
